A day later I was climbing my tree-I call it that because I spend most of my time there among other reasons- looking for what could possibly be causing the branches to fall off and leave barely any marks on the tree where they had been. I climbed up, down, and around the whole tree looking at the spots where the branches had been and for anything else that could give me a clue to why my tree was breaking.
“What are you looking for?” asked a voice. I looked down to see a familiar face returning my gaze.
“What do you want Chiron?” I asked my voice hard and cold like ice, “I thought you gave up on trying to get me to go back to your camp.”
He looked at me with uncertainty, “Something dangerous is going to happen,” he said surely, despite the look he was giving me, “I want to know what you are looking for, because it may be similar to what has been happening at camp.”
I laughed at the thought of the camp having problems similar to mine. I shook slightly when I did so and the branch I was on shook with me. This time I noticed and jumped barely reaching the branch above as the one I had been on fell to the ground directly in front of Chiron. I pulled myself onto the branch as he studied the spot where the branch had been attached to the tree. There was no way of telling a branch had just broken off of it except for the branch on the ground. I looked at him and said, “This. I am trying to figure this out.”
“I see,” he said, “If you could come with me to the camp we can figure this out.”
“Fine.” I said, “Only if I don’t have to talk to many people or stay in the Hermes cabin.” To be honest there was nothing wrong with the camp. Actually I loved it there. I just didn’t like the people in it. I had come to the camp about 4 years ago when I was 9, but left shortly after-I have never been a fan of being around people. I much prefered being alone in my tree at midnight during a full moon. I had left a note when I left saying where I was in case they had needed help throughout the years-I was only 9, but I was a great fighter. This was the third time I’d been asked to come back, but only the first time that I ever did. I hadn’t thought I would get anything out of it until now.
