Chapter 30 (Josh POV)
My first thought when I got up, was crap. I could hear Dale moving around in the front room and I knew that it was the cat before I even heard him call the stupid thing’s name.
My confrontation with them didn’t go so well either, Cooper and Ally hadn’t got involved but Dale and I had a bit of a spat. It wasn’t that I didn’t like the guy because I did, but when I was hungover, he did my head in. Not to mention that I was going to be late for my date.
Slamming my door, I started to riffle through my drawers. I would be on the ice so would need something warm and had a plan to bring an extra jumper, just in case she didn’t bring one with her.
I stood in front of the mirror and used my hair gel to push my hair forward a bit, I never did anything to my hair but I wanted to make a good impression.
If I was to admit something, it would be that I wasn’t particularly keen on being a player. I mean, it’s great, getting laid every other night, but it wasn’t a relationship. It was when I saw Ally and Cooper together, or Dale and Clara, it really hit home that I didn’t have anyone there for me if I needed them.
I had called Ally’s friend that owned the rink and she told me that it was fine for me to show up with my date before the rink actually opened and I was planning on taking her for food afterwards.
When I left my room to go and pick her up, everyone was already gone. I hoped that they wouldn’t find the bloody cat; it just got hair all over the place and was a pain in the ass.
I managed to slip out of the house after borrowing Cooper’s aftershave and rubbed my hands together with excited energy.
My car was parked just outside, waiting for me on the other side of Clara’s range rover so I unlocked it and climbed inside. The new car smell was still fresh from the tree on the mirror and I inhaled deeply. If Cooper or Dale knew that I was going on a date and was nervous about it, I would never live it down.
I put the car into gear and drove off onto the road, the tarmac spilling out in front of me like a treasure chest and I smirked, hoping that the nervousness would just melt away. This was going to be easy! I had charm, wit and some passable looks, she wouldn’t be able to resist.
I passed a few streets until I managed to find Cooper’s road and I pulled into the pavement. Lisa had told me not to come to the door as she didn’t really want her parents knowing about us yet.
I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel and glanced at the house. I dreaded to think what I looked like, kind of creepy probably. Not that I haven’t sat like a weirdo outside a girl’s house before, I just hadn’t done it with my best friend’s sister.
I saw a curtain in one of the top windows moved and I smiled to myself.
The door swung open and I watched as Lisa strolled down the path with a bag on her shoulder. She had her hair up in a bun with a few strands loose and was wearing a long jumper with black leggings. It looked like she had been taking fashion tips from Ally, either way, she looked good. A happy smile lit up her entire face, making her expression look light and careless.
Shaking the car when she got in, I got a whiff of a flowery scent and I grinned, starting the car up.
“Well, good morning,” she smiled and put her bag at her feet.
“Good morning, are you okay?” she asked, obviously motioning to the dark circles under my eyes.
“Yeah, I’m good,” she looked straight out of the windscreen and I sighed. “And as promised, I still haven’t hooked up with anyone,” she smiled and turned to look at me again.
