"I've become too fond of the stars to be fearful of the night."
chapter one: susurrus
I LEANED MY HEAD BACK AGAINST THE WALL, the cool concrete was rough against my skin. I closed my eyes, my chest rose and fell steadily to the silence of the empty cell.
The sound of a door sliding open startled me, footsteps bounced off the grey floors.I cracked my eyes open ever so slightly to see a guard waiting impatiently in front of me.
"Prisoner seven three six, on your feet." The bald man ordered.
His uniform had threads poking out from the shoulders, patches of black material had been stitched over what I assumed were holes. His face was wrinkled, the youth long gone from his frame; I stood up and I watched as another man entered the room. This man wore a long white coat, a pair of circular glasses rested on his nose. I leaned against the wall with furrowed eyes, I wasn't eighteen yet. It couldn't be my time, but perhaps it would be better than to face trial knowing I wouldn't make it out the other side.
The guard stepped forward, the light reflected off his name tag.
J Reynolds. His rough hands came in contact with my wrists and I tensed up, the beaded bracelet on my wrist made the officer huff as he fiddled with it.
"No, please let me keep it." I choked out, tears clouded my eyes.
"Relax kid, you can have it back after the procedure." Reynolds coaxed me into letting it go.
The doctor stepped closer, I pulled away. I felt a sting flow up my arm, I studied the bracelet on my wrist.
It was a thick, silver band. It felt like it was piercing my skin, a green light flashed from a small, square button on the side. I looked back up with a frown on my face, Reynolds put a hand on my hand shoulder and clicked the hand cuffs into place."What's happening?" I questioned.
I was escorted towards the door, ahead of me prisoners were being led out of their cells. I looked around anxiously, surely we all couldn't be floated.
"Good luck on the ground kid," Reynolds whispered in my ear.
I felt a pinch in my neck, my eyes drooped shut as my head lulled forward.

My eyes cracked open, I lifted my head to see other prisoners strapped into seats like myself. I watched as a blonde haired girl frowned at a boy who had unstrapped himself. He was currently airborne, two others had started to follow his actions.
Red lights blared throughout the room, there was a rumble before the entire room started to shake. I lurched forward in my seat, the straps pulled me back towards the seat. The three boys had been flung back to the end of the drop ship, my hands clenched tightly around the straps; the white bones of my knuckles became visible through my skin.
Sparks emitted from the searing metal, the screeching was loud. One minute the drop ship had been filled with screams, but everything had stopped. A boom sounded and we stopped moving.
Prisoners started to unbuckle, they bounced out of their seats; all were headed towards a ladder at the end of the drop ship.I reached down to unbuckle the belt, but the clip had gotten caught in the holder. I sighed, I used as much force as I could to pull it but it only seemed to tighten. Two hands clasped mine moving them from the seatbelt, I looked up to see a boy with blonde, curly hair.
He fiddled with the buckle, I felt my cheeks redden as he unclasped it straight away.
"There you go." he mused.
"Thank you," I replied, I stood up from the chair while the boy watched me amusedly.
"I'm Judah." he introduced.
"Evie." I shot back.
He was sucked into the crowd, by the time I got to the lower level it was full. Packed with teenagers, murmurs and mumbles flew around the drop ship. I managed to find Judah again, I stood beside him while the crowd started to die down.
"Bellamy?" We watched as a girl with long brown hair rushed through the crowd and to the front.
A man stood by the door, his hair was brushed back with gel. The guards uniform that adorned his body was loose, it looked like he had posed as a guard. He engulfed the brunette in his arms and the crowd started whispering again.
"Nobody has a sister,"
"The Blake siblings."
I gaped at the girl towards the front, that was Octavia. She had changed so much, the last time I'd seen her she had shorter hair. She used to wear a red bow in her hair.
"You know her?" Judah asked as he nudged my hip.
"Yeah." I confirmed.
Bellamy Blake, Octavia had only mentioned him once or twice. I looked up to see Bellamy reaching for the handle.
The blonde girl from earlier burst through the crowd with protest.
"You can't do that. What if it's toxic?" She asked incredulously.
"Well then we're all dead anyway," Bellamy announced with a smirk.
His hand pulled the lever down, the door fell with it. Octavia stepped out slowly until she was met with the end of the ramp. I smiled faintly as she raised her arms above her head.
"We're back bitches!" She screeched at the top of her lungs, of course only Octavia would say that.
The swarm of teenagers piled out right behind her, some spun around taking in the air while others observed the huge trees.
Judah had raced ahead like a little child receiving a present.
Bellamy Blake stood at the door, his arms folded. A smirk took over his lips as he turned to look at me.
"Something wrong, buttercup? What, are you scared? There's nothing to be afraid of." Bellamy teased.
And with that he strides out of the drop ship.
