"He was never mine, but losing him broke my heart."
chapter 8: aquila
I rolled my eyes at the sight of Bellamy stood shirtless at the drop ship door, he had a smirk on his face as he wasn't short of any attention. Some of the teenage girls gawked at him, I'll admit he had a nice body, but he was a complete asshole. I was heading to the drop ship to see if Clarke would check my burn and take off the bandage, Bellamy smirked at me as he whistled to himself."Might want to put a shirt on, Blake? You wouldn't want that back of yours to break out in boils, who knows what the radiation will do." I advised as I walked past him, the smirk fell from his face and he shot me a glare.
Clarke was stood at the metal table where she treated people who were injured or sick, she had more or less become the camp doctor. I lifted my long sleeved shirt over my head and gestures to the bandage on my shoulder.
"Is there still a stinging sensation?" Clarke questioned, I gritted my teeth as she pulled it off.
"Just a little bit," I grumbled.
"It's still inflamed, but the boils are gone. Just try some of this, I used it on Jasper and it's good at healing things. Make sure to let plenty of air reach to cool it."
I nodded my head and took some of the seaweed Clarke had handed me, I carried my shirt in my hand and walked outside rolling my shoulder a bit, it was painful but there was nothing I could do to make it heal faster.
"There's my little warrior." Judah spoke as he bumped his hip with mine.
"Little warrior?"
"Yeah, you've been bit by some sea creature, burned by acid fog and slapped in the face and you're still going." Judah stated and I smiled slightly at his words.
"Can we go sit at the fire?"
"Sure." I responded as I followed his tall frame.
The crackles emitted into the air along with the flowing smoke, Judah sat on the wood and rested his elbows on his knees. I pulled my hair down from its ponytail and ran my hands through it, I braided it quickly back behind my head so my hair would remain away from my face.
"Octavia really got you bad," Judah muttered as his hand reached out to touch my left cheek.
"It's fine, I deserved it."
"No you didn't, you are grieving just like her. It doesn't give her an excuse to do this to you, I know how you feel." Judah looked away from me as the words left his mouth.
"What do you mean?" I asked as I glanced at his distant expression.
"My mother died when I was fifteen, we had been robbed and dad and I weren't home. Never found out who did it." Judah explained, his gaze fell on the flames.
"That's not your fault, you never knew that would happen." I reasoned, but he shook his head.
"I realise that now, but I hated myself for so long because I thought that if I had been there, maybe things would be different. I blamed myself and that's what you're doing right now, Atom didn't die because of you, he died because of the acid fog. It was inevitable, there was nothing you could have done."
"I- I just don't know anymore..." I trailed off with a sigh.
"I know you're hurting, I did too, but don't blame yourself. There's really no shortcut to grieving someone, you just have to endure missing them everyday until you don't anymore." Judah spoke, he always knew what to say even at the worst of times.
"Thanks Judah." A grin tugged at my lips as he stood up.
"Don't mention it." I watched as his frame retreated to the wall where he tapped some boy's back as he started talking to him.
I stood up myself and made my way over to the wall which was nearly finished, I looked at a boy who was slouched over trying to catch his breath. I kneeled down beside him to see if he was okay, he was breathing heard and sheet of sweat glistened on his forehead.
"You okay?"
"I just need a minute, some water." He croaked and I nodded.
"Quit the chit chat Aaron and get back to work, the wall isn't going to build itself and then we might as well invite the grounders in with open arms." Murphy spat and his venomous gaze landed on me.
"I- I just need some water then I-I'll be okay." Aaron heaved as he stood up straight.
"You can get it later, now you're working." Murphy ordered and I bit my tongue from saying something.
I watched in disgust as a smirk grew on Murphy's lips, he unzipped his pants and started pissing in Aaron's direction.
"What the fuck dude?" Aaron shouted as he jumped back in surprise.
"You're disgusting." I snarled at Murphy.
"Why don't you make yourself useful and help the others around you?" Murphy suggested and this time I had a smirk on my face.
"Oh I help the others alright," I muttered under my breath as I stepped forward and closer to Murphy.
I placed my hands on his shoulders and lifted my knee to hit him in the groin, I watched as he doubled over in pain and clutched his area. I caught the gaze of Bellamy and I didn't miss the hint of amusement on his face as he watched from a distance.
"Aaron got get your water, Murphy here has some work to do. I've done my job." I patted Murphy's back as I walked past him.
"I'll fucking kill you, you bitch!" Murphy called behind me, but I kept walking.
Octavia ran through the gates with a pale face and something gripped tightly in her hand, I furrowed my eyebrows as she rushed into the drop ship with a look of fear on her face. I followed her curiously to see what had happened, as I pushed the tarp open, Octavia whipped around and she narrowed her eyes at me. Clarke stood in front of her with her hands on her hips.
"Octavia, what did you need to tell me?" Clarke's voice pulled Octavia's attention from me back to Clarke.
"I found s-something in the w-woods." Octavia stuttered, I immediately knew something was wrong because Octavia never stuttered when she talked.
I stepped closer to the two, I anxiously awaited as Octavia pulled open the small material in her hand. My eyes widened in shock and I gasped at what was in Octavia's hand. Three dark fingers and a blade were held in her hands, Clarke's eyes fell to the fingers and she shook her head as she covered her mouth.
"No! No! It's not him, tell me it's not him." Clarke shook her head as her back hit the wall.
"I'm sorry Clarke, but Wells is dead, this knife was beside him. Somebody murdered Wells." Octavia announced and I blanched with fear.
The tarp rose and in stepped Bellamy with a serious expression on his face.
"What's wrong?" Bellamy questioned as he stepped closer to Octavia.
Octavia and Clarke remained silent and I cleared my throat, Bellamy looked towards me and I opened my mouth to deliver the horrifying news.
"Wells is dead, somebody killed him."
Author's Note:
I don't have much to say here, but shit is going to go down. I tried to develop Judah and Evie's friendship more so hopefully I got that across. Hope you enjoyed this chapter, please vote and comment.
