" you don't drown by falling in water. you drown by staying there."

chapter two: frisson

SMOKE FLOATED THROUGH THE AIR, the grey clouds wafted from the crackling fire.

Four teenagers sat in a circle around it savouring the warmth and soaking in the beauty.

I was looking around for Octavia, her brunette hair was not visible at the moment. I spotted Bellamy by the door of the drop ship, a white tarp hung over the entrance. A boy with greasy hair and a menacing smile stood beside him listening to every word he said.
Judah was stood with a group of people towards the edge of the clearing, the blonde from earlier stood in the middle pointing at some paper in her hand; a map perhaps. The boy who had been floating around the drop ship stood next to the blonde nodding his head vigorously, also two other boys. One wore goggles on top of his head, his hair grew below his ears. The boy beside him was short, of Asian descent along with his jet, black hair.

The leaves and twigs crunched underneath my boots as I made my way across the clearing. Laughter and chatter filled the air, Judah peered up to see me; a small smile on his face.

"Evie, you up for a walk?" Judah questioned as I reached the group.

"I am," a girl's voice cuts in.

I turn to find Octavia standing there with her hands on her hips. Her eyes land on me, a squeal erupted from her lips before I pulled into a bone crushing hug.

"Evie, I can't believe you're here." Octavia beamed.

"I know, you've changed so much." I pointed out.

"Yeah, I grew up." Octavia confirmed with a hint of anger in her voice.

"We can deal with reunions later, right now all I'm worried about is those supplies." The blonde interrupted.

I had learned that the blonde was Clarke Griffin, the boy from the drop ship was Finn Collins or Spacewalker. The boy with goggles was Jasper and the Asian boy was Monty who seemed to know a lot about plants and trees.

We were all standing at the edge of the clearing when the Chancellor's son, Wells Jaha; approached Clarke and she did not look pleased.

"Clarke, can I talk to you?" Wells asked.

"Wells, I've already told there's nothing to talk about. Besides there's bigger things to worry about right now." Clarke snapped back attracting the attention of a few teenagers.

"Hey look everyone! It's the prince and princess." The greasy haired boy from earlier shouted.

"Stay out of this, Murphy." Wells shot back, that only caused Murphy to step closer.

Murphy stepped forward and grabbed onto Wells' collar, Clarke protested but Jasper and Monty pulled her back.

"Your dad's not here to save you now," Murphy sneered as he shoved Wells to the ground.

Wells stumbled back, his ankle twisted as he tripped over a rock. A crack sounded through the air.
Murphy headed towards Wells again, Wells prepared himself by raising his hands in front of his face. Finn stepped forward, he put his hand to Murphy's chest halting him to the spot.

"Get your own nickname. Kids got a bad leg, why don't you wait until it's a fair fight?" Finn suggested.

"Yeah right," Murphy replied as he pushed past Finn.

"Murphy, stop!" Bellamy ordered, I watched as he waited with his arms crossed.

Murphy shook his head with a laugh before returning to Bellamy's side.
