Within ten minutes we had a list of about fifty different ideas. We needed a theme. It could be glow in the dark, ABC (anything but clothes), all black, toga, or a Hawaiian theme.
Those were our favorites so far. We finally picked a Hawaiian theme. Girls could wear bathing suits and boys could wear clothes that made them look like cheesy tourists.
James had to leave to take an exam, so it was just Care and me in our room. As soon as the door shut, she jumped over onto my bed and demanded details about mystery boy.
"Is he super cute?," she asked in a singing voice.
I wanted to tease her a little so I said, "Hm, sorry. I can't remember."
She punched me in the arm and told me to stop stalling.
"He was so cute, and just the sweetest guy I have ever met!", I gushed.
"I need to meet him. I just met a new guy down the hall named Thad, and we have to double date!, she yelled.
"Okay, okay. If he ever texts me."
"He definitely will. I heard you guys talking outside of the door and he sounded sincere."
"Oh, god! That means your brother heard it too. That is so weird.", I immediately regretted saying that because I wasn't sure if she knew of his crush on me, so I tried to play it off like I didn't say anything.
Before I could, she said, "I know my brother totally likes you, but I don't think he's a good match for you. He is too much of a player, and you seem like a sweet girl."
"Awe, thanks Care. I'm so glad that you aren't the bitch I expected you to be."
We both laughed and she agreed that I was way better than she imagined.
We both got ready and decided to go to the grocery store to buy some food, so we could actually survive in our dorm room. We walked to the same small square that I picked out my books.
I tried really hard not to think about Daniel. I know he told me to call him Danny, but Daniel just seemed like a better fit for him, since he almost always called me Alex and not Dri.
We went in a little store called "Food for Friends". We went in and grabbed coffee, noodles, and some soda and drinks for our party tonight. We checked out, and she paid because I said I would pay for the decorations and supplies. We would need to go into town for the supplies though because the stores we could walk to only had our basic necessities.
We walked back and she brought up her brother again."Just so you know, I don't mind if you want to date my brother. I mean he can be a nice guy."
I thought it was nice that she was showing him in a good light. After a little I said, "He isn't really my type, but I'll keep that in mind. He does seem nice though."
I used my key to get into the building since Care was carrying more than me. We got to our room and put all of our goods away. Care said she shared a car with her brother, so once he got back, we could use it to go shopping for the rest of our party favors.
After waiting for James for about two hours, he finally came to our room with the car keys. Care felt bad that we were kind of excluding him by doing all the setup stuff, so we let him come along with us to the store to pick out stuff for the guys to wear.
We first ended up at a thrift store to pick out some Hawaiian shirts and shorts, and then we went to a place called Party City to pick up more bathing suits and leis.
We got back to James's room around 6, and started to set up tables of punch and beer. Then we set up another table for extra leis and clothes in case people forgot it was a themed party, or just didn't have anything to wear.
An hour later we were still waiting for people. Care says in America, people like to be "fashionably late" which I have no idea what it means. I guess people just didn't think it was cool to throw a party at 7 p.m..
Around 9, people started filing in though. People were in way less clothes than I expected, and brought way more beer to share. I tried to make my way through the halls to mingle, but every time I met someone new, I would want to stay there and talk to that person.
I finally made it back to my room and since my door was left open to fit more people, I found an interesting surprise. It was Daniel from when we bumped into each other shopping, and James talking on my bed. I thought it was weird that James was playing nice even though he hated that I met a new guy.
I remember though, that I never mentioned what Daniel looked like or his name. I couldn't wait to see the look on his face when I tell James that his new best friend is Daniel, my future boyfriend.
I walked up to them and said hi.
"Hey guys, how's the party?"
James replied first, "It's great, I can't believe we planned it in so little time. We are going to be the most popular building on campus if we keep this up." I nodded, and James seemed to remember Daniel sitting there, and finally introduced him.
"Hey, Dri, this is my new friend Daniel."
I looked at him with a smirk and said, "I know. Daniel is the guy who walked me to my room last night before the party planning."
James seemed shocked that he didn't realize it, and once he came to his senses he apologized for having to go and stormed out. I sat down with Daniel, and tried to ignore the fact that James was completely pissed right now at a party with a ton of alcohol.
