It was already Thursday and I was racked with nerves. What if Care and Daniel just aren't meant to get along? What if Daniel is acting strange? I planned on finding out. It was already about three in the afternoon, so I decided to head to a local cafe.
Just before I got to the building, my phone rang. I pulled it out expecting to see Daniels number, but it was my parents. I dreadingly clicked answer.
"Hey, guys!" I said trying to smile even though they couldn't see me.
"Hey, hun. It's just me, Dad. Your mother is out doing errands."
"So, Dad, what's up?"
"Well, there is some news. If I tell you, you cannot worry."
"Of course I won't. I know my parents can make me feel safe wherever I am," I said with a real smile.
"Good. I called the company that Trent worked for, you know the one that gave us his information. Well, apparently he wasn't doing his weekly check in calls to his boss," he said angrily.
"Why didn't the company notify you?"
"Apparently they did. Many times. I'm assuming the new maid we hired just deleted them, so I fired her without the week's pay."
"Harsh, Dad," I said jokingly.
"SHE GOT MY BABY ATTACKED! IF IT WEREN'T FOR HER, YOU WOULDN'T BE TRAUMATIZED!" he screamed.
"Dad, stop. You're scaring me. I'm okay over here. It's going to be okay," I crooned.
"I'm sorry. It's just been so stressful to know my princess is all alone in the merde United States," he said starting to cry.
"It's going to be okay. I have a lot of good friends here that I trust."
"Don't trust anyone, unless you know their whole life story. I want you to have a good life there, but promise me you won't get too attached to people you don't know," he asked sadly.
"I promise. I love you, Dad."
"I love you too. You better get back to your 'higher' education," he said mockingly.
"Bye! Call again soon!"
"Of course. I'll tell Mom you said hi."
And with that, the call ended. I was feeling a bit down now. I had no idea that my Dad had been worrying so much about me.
I turned around and headed back to the dorm. When I went up the stairs to the building, someone grabbed my shoulder.
I instinctively screamed, but the person swung me around.
It was James. It was just James.
"Putain, you gave me a heart attack!," I yelled.
"I'm so sorry. I was trying not to sneak up on you. I thought you heard me," he said with a frown.
"I was a bit zoned out."
"What is putain?"
"What do you mean?"
"That's what you yelled when you said I gave you a heart attack."
"Oh," I said slapping my forehead, "It's 'fuck' in French. I sometimes speak French when I'm mad or scared."
"It's a beautiful language for a beautiful girl."
I laughed at his attempt and grabbed his arm to pull him to my dorm room.
"Hey, what are you doing," he asked.
"You're actually protesting that I'm willingly going to let you into my room?"
