(A/N + Shoutout: Since I am not tech savvy, I will put this AMAZING and ORIGINAL picture made by the one and only, @eastcoastdreams here. I want to dedicate this chapter to her because she has been so nice and cooperative! If you ever need a cover, she's got you covered! (I should copyright that lol!))
The guy must not have seen Patrick, so as soon as Patrick pulled me into the store, the man turned and ran. I sagged down onto the floor and sobbed. The next thing I knew, there were squad cars outside of the shop, and a man was picking me up.
I screamed as it took me back to only minutes ago when a man was trying to kidnap me. He set me down and brought the paramedics to me. I was continuously asked, "Are you hurt? Do you want me to call your parents, sweetie? Do you go to this college?".
I answered in a string of words. No, no, yes. I couldn't look anyone in the eye. How could this happen? My parents just hired a new bodyguard, and I was feeling safe again. I just wanted to go home.
If I were going to be in harm's way, I would have rather been with my family. I missed my brother, my Mom, and especially my Dad. My Dad would know just what to say when the time was right.
Right about now, he would probably make a joke to calm my nerves. I abruptly stood up as everyone looked towards me.
"I'm okay. I just want to go back to my room, call my parents, and go to bed," I said calmly.
"Honey, we need you to give a statement down at the station. When you're ready of course," a kind and short policewoman said to me in a soft voice.
I nodded, but as I walked away I ran into someone. James. He must have seen the scene and came to see what happened.
"What happened to you, Dri? I came to your room to hang out, but you were gone. I heard sirens, and I was just so worried about you, I came right away," he said, hugging me.
Before I could respond, James moved away from me, and someone else moved into my embrace. It was Daniel. I looked at James because I knew this would be the end of our interaction, and he nodded in agreement and walked away. I would find it later to talk to him and explain.
"Hey," Daniel pulled my chin to his eye level, "are you hurt?"
I looked down again, "No, just a little surprised."
"Sorry, it took me so long to get here. I heard sirens, but I figured they were to break up a drunk college party. When Patrick called me, I ran," he whispered, looking at me with pity.
I didn't want to look at him. One emotion I would not accept was his pity. It was the worst. I took a deep breath.
"I need to go get some rest, so I can give my statement in the morning. I want some time to think. Alone," I stated quietly.
"I understand. I'll make sure a police officer is stationed at your door, and they will stay there until I pick you up for your statement."
I didn't want to argue, so I just gave him a peck on the cheek and walked away. I felt bad for James. He came to comfort me because he came to see me, but Patrick had to call Daniel.
