When Evan and Julie turned down a dirt road, Julie was starting to worry that Evan might kill her.

You never know right?

"Would you relax? I'm not going to kill you," he remarked as if he was reading his mind.

Was he?

They walked farther down until they came to a small beaten down house.

The white and blue paint was chipping off the outside of the house and one of the steps leading to the house was slanted and looked to be broken.

"I know, not much...but it's home," he said.

She nodded looking ahead.

"Watch your step," Evan advised as they walked up the steps to his porch.

He pulled out a pair of keys and unlocked the front door pushing it open.

Evan gestured for her to walk in and she nodded, stepping inside.

The white tile was old and seemed to be permanently yellow. The old wall paper was worn and was ripped in some places.

"Ma! I'm home," Evan called walking passed her, "Come on."

Julie followed silently behind Evan.

They walked into a spacious kitchen.

"Evan I'm in the dining room!" Someone called, probably Evan's mother.

Evan abruptly turned to Julie.

"Don't say anything about it. She hates it," he said.

"What?" Julie asked confused.

They walked through a door and into a small dining room.

A woman sat behind the table filling out papers.

Her light blonde hair was pushed back by her glasses that sat on top of her head.

She had Evan's eyes.

She smiled brightly at Julie.

"Dear you didn't tell me you were bringing a girl home. Not to mention a beautiful one at that," Evan's mom said.

Julie just blushed and smiled.

"Ma, I'd like you to meet Julie Meyer. She's in my section in band. She's brand new here. I was going to change then go show her around," Evan explained.

"It's lovely to meet you dear. I'm Terri. Don't you dare call me anything but that or I'll run you over," she joked smiling.

"It's nice to meet you too Terri," Julie replied.

Evan clapped his hands together, "Alright I'll be five minutes."

Julie nodded smiling at him.

"Here let me show you the house," Terri said excitedly.

Julie nodded again.

Only Terri never stood up to show her the house; she wheeled herself.

Terri was in a wheelchair.

To Julie it looked as if her legs were mine and healthy, which meant she was most likely paralyzed.

Julie remembered what Evan said about not saying anything about it and just blew the whole thing off.

"So you're in Evan's section then?" Terri asked casually.

"Yes ma'am. I met him yesterday. It was my first day," Julie replied.
