This was it. It was his chance.
Jason whistled nervously as he waited in their bedroom. Piper was away, dressing up.
For two years of being married, Jason had planned their perfect night. He wanted to make her feel special, and he couldn't think of any other way. Last time, he took Piper to a fancy restaurant only to be attacked by the Nemean Lion, and it ended pretty bad. There had been several attempts for a perfect date night, but always ruined by monster disturbances. So this time, Jason thought it would actually be good if they did it at home.
"Jason?"
Jason wheeled around to find his wife looking like she had done before when they were teenagers; she wore a plain white T-shirt and tattered denim jeans. Her long, wavy hair was tied back into a simple ponytail.
"Wow, Pipes. I --"
"What did you want to tell me anyway, Sparky?" Piper said as she drew closer to him and tousled his blond hair. Jason smiled at her.
"Come on. I want to show you something."
Before Piper could say anything, Jason grabbed her hand and led her to the window.
"Okay." Piper took a breath.
"Just hold on to me, okay?" Jason opened the tall windows. The night breeze blew through the curtains, and Piper's hair swayed back and forth. Her ever-changing eyes gleamed in the light of the stars. Even though they'd been together for so many years now, just one look from those eyes, and Jason's heart would be thumping wildly inside his chest.
He pulled her closer to him, and she held onto his neck, then they soared upwards.
On the roof of their house, a blanket was set up, along with a picnic basket filled with Piper's favorite foods.
Jason settled her down the blanket, and she looked like she was too happy and too surprised to let go of him.
"Do you remember anything?" Jason sat down beside her, opening the basket and bringing out the food. Piper just froze on her spot, her mouth slightly ajar.
"The night we kissed on the rooftop of Wilderness School. How could you still remember?"
"Uh. . ." Jason blushed and scratched the back of his neck.
"I kind of watch you while you sleep. And you talk when you sleep. That's how I got the idea."Piper laughed. Jason loved that laugh. It was music to his ears.
"Seriously, Jason." she said, still chuckling. Jason beamed at her.
"It's just. . . Every time we go out, we always get -- you know. "
" Now, let's start, shall we? "
They ate tofu burgers ( It took Leo weeks to teach Jason how to cook ) and salad and a lot of vegetarian stuff. Throughout the years, Jason never succeeded in convincing Piper to be a meat person.
They talked all night, laughing and reminiscing about the Giant War and their adventures. Then after the little picnic, Jason helped Piper up.
"May I have this dance?" He offered his hand to his wife. Piper smiled beautifully.
They waltzed on the roof, careful enough not to slip on the blanket and fall to their deaths. That would be stupid.
Without even realizing it, they flew a few inches from the roof. The swayed and Jason twirled her around.
"Thank you so much, Sparky. This means a lot to me," Piper whispered in his ear as he pulled her in closer to him. Her breath felt hot against his neck.
"I'm really sorry it's not that fancy. I'm seriously sorry because -- "
Jason was cut short when she leaned forward and kissed him. Her lips were so soft and gentle, his whole body tingled. He was afraid he'd zap her accidentally.
Piper laced her fingers around his neck. Jason cupped her smooth face with his hands. They stayed like that for a while, then Piper pulled away.
"Wow." Jason said. She let out a giggle.
Jason was blushing horribly. Heat rose all the way to his face, and his heart felt like it was trying to do jumping jacks. Piper really had that effect on him.
"I love you so much, Piper." he said. She rested her head on his shoulders.
"I love you, too." she replied lovingly.
Jason scooped her up bridal style, and flew down to the windows. He carried her to their bedroom, and set her down the bed.
Jason was glad it all was reality.
