Note: Let's just say this is in an alternate universe. A universe of Supers. Anyway, I'll leave the mystery. This is just about the longest oneshot I've written, so maybe you'd call it a longshot? Hehe, just kidding. Without further ado, read on.
Of all the things she felt, she was confused as hell. And a little scared too. But given this situation, she wouldn't admit that.
New York city almost looked like a toy from this point on. She could see tiny cars moving around in miniscule streets, and the large blot she was seeing might be their annoying Economics teacher. Nah, the last part was a joke. Piper McLean just thought that up, she despised that woman so much.
She fixed her eyes on the Super carrying her on his back, the one she just befriended last month. His blond hair was perfectly golden in the setting sun, ruffled by the strong wind of the skies. Geez. The horrors if he had worn a cape. It'd be ruffling right into Piper's face.
The thought made her shudder.
She gently tapped on Electro's back, asking, "Where are you taking me, Sparky?"
Even if he told her his Super name was Electro (pretty lame, huh?), she kept insisting on calling him Sparky. It irritated him a lot at first. Unfortunately, he had learned the art of tolerating it.
Electro glanced over his shoulder, a small smile playing at his lips. "You'll see, Pipes."
"Don't call me that."
"We're even then."
Occasionally, about two pigeons almost hit her face, and she was cool about it. Piper vaguely wondered if Electro was already tired.
"We're here," Electro told her.
He flew down to Empire State Building, right on the rooftop. The strong wind whooshed around them, making Piper eat her hair. Electro settled her down gently.
"So what now?" she shouted to him. The wind was too loud.
He walked closer to her, making her blush a little when he was only a few inches away.
"Well, I figured you might be. . . you know," Electro tells her. "New York is a big place, Piper. And you're the only one I know that I could count on."
"What about the other supers?" Piper couldn't really catch his drift. She was afraid they weren't on the same page. "Also, why would you bring me up here?"
An unsure, shy, and nervous smile tugged on the lips of Electro. "I want you to be by my side when I fight crime, Piper. Only you."
She put the pieces together. "So you want me to be your sidekick?"
"Not my sidekick, Pipes. More of a collaboration. Like Marlon and Dory when they were finding Nemo."
"Stop it with the Finding Nemo references. I get it, but there's one insy tinsy problem," Piper says, her shoulders sagging. "I don't have powers."
Electro peered at her from behind his mask. Even with his mask on, Piper could sense his handsome features turning apologetic.
"I'm sorry, Piper. There's only one way to find out, I guess."
"Wait, you're not going to—"
In one swift, gentle push, Piper McLean was flailing her arms like a bird would work its wing. Ugh.
She was pushed off the building by this crazy Super, who was planning to turn her either into a companion or a gross human pancake the ambulance would later scrape off the pavement. Hmm, she couldn't decide which.
Piper was so caught off guard that she didn't have time to swerve around. The wind stung her face she was falling so fast. She expected her flying powers to activate, or maybe hope that she could teleport right back on top of the building, but all she got was an almost heart-attack.
"WAAAAAAAHHH!" Piper wailed. Now, back to free-falling.
She didn't notice the super fast figure racing with her fall. Her eyes were shut too tight, tears were falling from them. She was surprised when she felt someone catch her, but her brain was stripped off of any coherent thought to wonder whoever caught her.
Maybe it was that Aquaman-ish Super she had a crush on long time ago. Or the small, fireball-throwing guy. Whoever had flying powers must've saved her.
Piper opened her eyes slowly, only to be greeted by icy blue eyes.
"I'm so, so, so, sorry—"
She immediately got off from his arms and threw a strong punch on his jaw.
"Jerk!" she shrieked. "What was that about?!"
Electro shielded his face from her, curling into a ball on the rooftop. "I'm super sorry, Piper! I thought you'd take it lightly!"
"I almost died, you wad!"
"I would save you, no matter what!"
"What if you didn't?"
"Then I would never ever forgive myself. You mean so much to me, Piper."
It was so unfair of him to do that. Dropping a drama bomb like that. Catching her off guard again. Her anger crumbled to nothing. I meant so much to this guy?
"Well, who would take that lightly, Electro?"
"I thought maybe. . . I just wanted you to be with me, in every step of the way. I was selfish and rash. I'm sorry, Piper."
She didn't know what to do with him. Well, she wasn't dead.
"As much as I wouldn't like to say this yet," Piper grumbled, crossing her arms. "You're forgiven, Sparky."
She helped him up, and much to her surprise, Electro wrapped his arms around her.
They stayed like that for a long time, until the first star winked at her.
Electro inhaled. "I like you so much, Piper. Maybe you'd want to go out for ice cream?"
"I like me too, Jason Grace. And yes, I'd love ice cream."
