I guess I didn't tell you why my father and mother divorced. Well, I guess it was more like he walked out on us. After Kathleen was born, my psychosis got worse and worse. I began to have hallucinations almost everyday.
My father squandered all of my mothers money, and she barely had enough to buy my medicine. They were broke.
My parent fought and fought. Finally, one day my dad got in his car and drove away. He left my mom, baby Kathleen and I alone.
I FaceTimed Kathleen on my phone the next morning.
"Hey Marcy!" She said with her hair still matted and uncombed.
"Hey Kathleen." I replied. I sat down on the edge of my bed.
"So what do you want?" She asked.
I rearranged my bedsheets.
"I just miss you. That's all." I lied. She looked at me with that disapproving look that told me she knew I was lying.
"Tell the truth, Marcy."
"Fine." I groaned. "I have a friend, and they're making me get butterflies in my stomach."
"Boy or girl?"
I looked at her and didn't respond.
"So a boy." Kathleen laughed.
"I've only known him one week, it's just... I can relate to him, that's all." I replied.
"Sounds like you're in love, Marcy."
"That's not funny!" I yelled, immediately jumping up. I would've punched her if she was here in real life.
"Don't try and pretend you're not." Kathleen accused. "We all have fallen for someone before."
"I don't LIKE HIM!" I yelled.
"Fine then! Don't tell me anything!" Kathleen shouted back. She hung up.
I heard a knock at the door.
"Come in." I grunted. The door opened. I was surprised by who was there.
"Hi." Isaac said.
"Oh... hi!" I exclaimed. I patted the seat next to me.
"Can I talk to you?" He asked. "Your like, my only friend."
"Tell me anything." I insisted. He laid his back down on my bed.
I still sat up, I mean, if I laid down it would be very awkward, wouldn't it?
He closed his eyes.
"I had a vision of my mother dying again. Only it was my dad who killed her.
I shuddered.
"That's really odd." I replied. "I had a vision where Laura's father killed his own daughter."
"That is really odd." Isaac replied.
"I'm scared, Isaac, I'm scared." I cried. "My visions have been clearer and scarier then ever Isaac."
I felt a hand grab mine and hold it tightly.
"It's okay." Isaac replied softly. "We have each other, right?"
I don't know why I did, but I broke out crying. My emotions were mixed.
I'm not sure what I feel for Isaac, my worries, Kathleen mad at me, and everything else tied into one.
"Hey." Isaac said. "It's fine. Everything's fine."
He sat up and looked me straight in the eyes.
"Take your hair down." He said.
"Why?" I asked.
He then put his arms around my head, and took it down.
"You look really pretty with your hair down." He admired.
I blushed.
"Thanks." I replied. He looked away, his face almost as blushed as mine was.
We sat in silence for a long time, I was hoping he would say something, but he didn't.
"It's funny, I haven't had an actual friend since preschool." I said quietly.
Isaac looked back at me.
"Me neither."
I giggled a bit, then soon, broke out laughing. I don't know why.
"You remind me of my teacher in first grade." He sighed, still smiling. "She giggled very often for no particular reason."
I laughed harder, soon falling to the ground uncontrollably laughing.
"Anyway, what's so funny?" He asked.
I pointed at my head and did the cookoo symbol.
"Ah." He said. "You break out laughing sometimes because of your psychosis?"
I nodded. Still laughing. I covered my mouth with my hand and rolled up into a ball.
"Make it stop!" I yelled between laughs.
"Um, someone paralyze her or something!" Isaac shouted.
A nurse came in with a needle. I came back into my head. On the bus. I could even tell it was a hallucination. I screamed and kicked at whoever was in front of me.
"Ouch!" Yelled someone. A lady's voice.
I came back into reality.
"I'm so sorry 'mam!" I apologized, getting up.
"Jesus! You kids!" She handed me a band aid and stormed out of the room.
"Wow, she does realize she works at a place with people who have hallucinations, right?" Isaac laughed.
I groaned and fell to the ground.
"I don't feel good." I uttered. My reality began to disappear before me. I saw the girl again, you know, the one with horns.
"So you love him?" She asked.
"No!" I shouted. My face turning red.
Suddenly, I heard a voice coming from far away. It seemed distant.
"Marcy? Marcy what do you see?" I recognized it immediately. Isaac.
I screamed and held out my hand.
"Just take me already!" I screamed. "I don't want to live like this anymore!"
The girl laughed as she rolled her eyes.
"You humans, you idiotic humans." She laughed. "Always wanting a way out."
"I can't do this anymore!" I shouted.
I reached out further for the girl's hand.
"In your dreams!" She uttered, as she threw my hand to the side.
"IN MY HALLUCINATIONS!" I screamed.
I got up and jumped onto the girl. She fell to the ground. I punched her straight in the nose.
She floated out right from under me and cackled harshly.
"I'm just saying, don't get attached to anyone." She sighed. "Because you'll leave them."
Her voice faded, and so did she. I was back in my bedroom again.
"Isaac!" I shouted, surprised.
"You punched me in the face!" He said.
He got up, holding his nose.
"I-Isaac!" I shouted. He started backing away from me.
"I thought, you of all people would understand." I sneered through gritted teeth.
"I do!" He said. "It just hurts!"
"I'm so sorry, Isaac!" I apologized.
He fell to the ground, holding his nose.
"Oh god." I shouted. "HELP!"
