I get up from my bed and immediately feel lightheaded.
"Oh jeez." I say, pinching my head. Everything seems to be spinning. All the sudden, I'm back on the school bus. I hear a scream. I look down and see I'm covered in blood.
"Not again!" I say. I rush to the bathroom medicine cabinet, throwing a bunch of pills in my mouth, hoping they're my prescription.
"Marcy?" I hear a voice ask.
"No Laura!" I shout. "They'll kill you!"
"Marcy!"
I reach out for the voice.
"Laura! They'll kill you!"
I grab onto what I think is a bus seat, and hold as tight as I can.
"Marcy, it's me, Laura." I hear the voice say. I reach out to hug her.
"Everything will be ok." She says. "Just don't worry. Everything will be ok."
"Ok, Laura."
A scream pierces my ears and I wake up on the floor of my bedroom. I'm hugging my pillow tightly. As I sit up I come back into reality, my bedroom soon beginning to show details.
"Marcy?"
A voice startles me. I turn around to see Kathleen standing at the doorway. I can't help but notice the bags around her eyes. She seems extremely tired.
"Hi." I weakly say, smiling.
Kathleen smiles back.
"How did you sleep?" She asks.
I rub my forehead.
"Um, I slept ok."
"Good" Kathleen states. "I brought you breakfast."
She takes out a tray of toast with jam and a glass of orange juice.
"Oh. Thanks." I say. I take the plate and begin eating. Kathleen sits down beside me as she brushes her hair out of her face. She's wearing my old hand me down blue dress, I never wore before. Mom bought it and it hung in my closet for a few years. I never took it out.
"You look good in that." I point out.
"Thanks." Kathleen replies.
I look down.
"Why are you being so nice to me?" I ask.
Kathleen bites her lip.
"I found you shouting about Laura last night. You thought I was her. You latched onto me and didn't let go." Kathleen says quietly. "And to let you know, I couldn't sleep."
I gaze up to my wall and glance at my Pink Floyd poster.
"Thanks." I whisper.
Kathleen smiles again. All she does is laugh. I guess that's her way of saying you're welcome.
