"Wha- what?" I ask Melissa. She smiled.
"You aren't just a seer, you see into people. You're a special breed."
"How many different types of us are there?" I ask, seriously.
"Thousands. But- a lot of them are extinct." Melissa sighs. "There were teachers, seers, protectors, savers, admitters, admirers and a ton more, I don't remember much, I learned it in like, first grade."
"You knew you were a Protector all your life?" I ask.
"Yeah."
My eyes widened. How come nobody bothered to tell me?
I sat up. Clara was watching us from the middle of the pool. She had an expression of shock pasted on her face.
"What happened?" I ask her.
"Marcy, something's coming. I can feel it. Someone's coming." Clara repeats over and over, as if she's in a trance.
"Who?" Melissa asks.
Isaac runs towards us, and jumps over the gate. He grabs me, two hands on my arms which hung tightly to my chest.
"Run." He says.
Shots ring out, hitting the pool and splashing water up in small drops.
Isaac and I run across, our feet kicking up dirt.
Melissa and Clara run the opposite way.
"Clara!" I shout. My voice is nothing compared to the shots which ring out and the screams which sound from the house.
Isaac kicks down the door of the garden shed. He hands me a metal shovel, and takes the rake for himself.
"Don't be afraid to bash anyone's skull." Isaac shouts.
I suddenly see a small round object thrown into the shed.
"Get down!" Screams Isaac. I feel an arm come over my back, before we fall to the ground.
I look up in terror to see an explosion ring out in the room. Pieces of wood hit the my back.
I get up, my face caked with tar and ashes.
Isaac gets up and offers his hand down to me.
I take it and he helps me up.
"Where's the other boys?" I ask. "Where's Olivia?"
"I don't know about Olivia. But Micheal and Charlie are dead." Isaac sighs.
"Emerson?"
"Ran."
Isaac takes my hand.
"For all I know, we're the only ones left."
And suddenly we run across the field, Isaac's hand tightly in mine.
My eyes widen as bullets fly inches past me. The grass looks burnt, and explosions go off in the background.
A bullet flys into Isaac's leg. He falls to the ground.
I look around and dive to the ground just before an explosion goes off.
"Hey!" I hear a voice yell.
I see Crimson. She's holding a gun, like the ones you only see in movies. She takes out her hand and helps me up.
I look back at Isaac. He lays limply sprawled across the ground.
"Don't worry about him." Crimson says.
We sprint across the field and back into the house. It looks massacred.
Shelves lay toppled, furniture is torn and lay littered around.
Crimson throws me a gun. It's so heavy, I can barely hold it.
We walk outside, into the car.
Crimson starts it.
"Wait!" I scream at her.
I fumble with the door, but it's locked.
"Isaac! We can't just leave him!" I scream.
"We just did." Says Crimson. She takes my hands off the door and folds them in my lap.
"Crimson!" I say. She puts her right hand over my mouth, and uses her left hand to drive.
I slap her hand away from me.
"I love him!" I shout.
"So?"
"SO WE CAN'T LEAVE HIM IN HELL!" I scream. I suddenly take the wheel and turn it to the right. I hear Crimson scream before we begin falling. A cliff was right next to the road. They lived on a mountain.
"You idiot! You stupid idiot!" Screams Crimson. I feel the car plummet.
"By doing this, you're killing yourself!" Crimson yells.
"What does it matter? My mother hates my father, they're probably off killing each other, my sister's dead, and Isaac is going to get killed! All thanks to you!" I sneered.
"What did I have to do with it?" She shouted.
"Because you're my demon, Crimson! Do you think I haven't noticed? How else would I be able to read you?"
Crimson shudders before I hear a slam. My life seems to flash before my eyes. First the bus. Then meeting Isaac, than Kathleen. I feel as if everything is about to go black.
Nothing happens. Nobody died. Just a moment of silence after a loud bang.
"How am I not dead?" I ask.
"Because you're not human, idiot. Demons can't go to humans, didn't you notice?" Crimson spat.
I wasn't surprised. I guess out of all I'd been through, this seemed like nothing.
I helped Crimson up and we climbed out of the shattered remains of the car.
We looked up. I'd then realized how far we'd fallen.
"I've fallen all the way to hell, Marcy. Trust me, this is nothing." Says Crimson. I now see the horns which begin to grow on her head.
"They're never gonna believe you, you're earth bound, Marcy. Forever and always."
And suddenly she spreads her wings and flys into the air.
I stare at her as her figure slowly fades into the sky.
And suddenly I begin to feel my life fade from my own body. And the next thing I know, I'm flying off into the sky.
Every story has an ending.
And not all are happy.
