Part Eleven.
"Can I open my eyes yet?" I asked, sighing.
"Nope."
"Lucas." I whined, stretching out his name.
"I don't want you to ruin it."
"If I could see you, I'd punch you."
"Reason number two as to why you have to keep your eyes shut." He led me a few more feet before he stopped me. He let go of me and I heard him rustling around.
"What are you doing?"
"Hush."
I sighed and crossed my arms over my chest.
"Open your eyes."
I opened my eyes and saw we were in the middle of nowhere. At least nowhere I'd been before. There was a stream in front of us and the open sky all around us. The sun was close to going down, making the clouds look a bit orange.
Lucas had set up a small picnic on a blue blanket. There was even a basket, which made me laugh.
"I wanted to cheer you up since you've been having a bad week."
"It's been the worst week ever. Not now, though."
Lucas wrapped his arm around me and pulled me up against his chest. "I hate seeing you so sad."
"I'm not sad right now."
He pulled me down to the blanket and handed me one of the sodas he packed. "Good. Because I really want you to enjoy this."
"I am so far."
He pulled out the food and I recognized fried chicken in a container along with french fries and biscuits. I knew Lucas so well I couldn't believe I didn't see this coming.
"You didn't ask your mom to cook?"
"I was running on an hour and a half of time."
"That's enough time to cook stuff."
He rolled his eyes. "You like Freddy's chicken so I figured I'd go with that."
"I like anything."
"Except girls." He pointed out, a smile on his face.
I laughed. "I don't even think I like guys. It's just... It's always been you."
Lucas leaned over to where I was and kissed me, pushing me onto my back, the can of soda rolling away from me.
"Crap. I'm sorry." He said, pushing himself away from me.
"I didn't open it yet."
He blushed but he was smiling. "Even better."
I pulled him down to me and kissed him again, my hands on the back of his neck. "Don't you have school tomorrow?"
"If you're not happy, I'm not happy. And if I'm not happy, I can't focus on school. So you come first."
"Now that makes me sound selfish."
"So be it."
"Lucas? I know I've been a baby lately and, like, always but please don't put me first. I don't want you to feel like I've been neglecting you or anything."
He straddled me and brushed my hair back from my face. "I don't feel that way at all. If I were in your spot, I know you'd take care of me."
"I hope I don't have to. I don't want you to have to feel all the crap I've been feeling."
He kissed me. "I'd take it away in a heartbeat if I could." His hands worked their way down my sides and he pushed my shirt up, revealing my pale stomach.
"I'm starving. Let's eat."
Lucas laughed as he slid off me. "You really know how to kill the mood. Two times in two days."
I punched his arm. "Do you really want to have sex with someone who's crying?"
"As long as you're not crying over me."
"Is this your way of making up for me not asking you how your week's been?"
"Maybe a little."
"You're evil."
Hekissed my cheek. "And you're stuck with me."
