Part Seven
I walked down the hall to the kitchen and saw Lucas eating breakfast, his school uniform on. His mom was standing at the stove, a glass of orange juice in her hands. Her hair was pulled back and her glasses were on again. Typically, she wore contacts.
"How are you feeling?" Lucas asked, taking my hand.
I shrugged, my eyes cast down. "Fine."
"Aid," He said softly. He tugged on my hand.
I sighed though I wasn't mad at all. All I wanted was to be in his arms.
I sat down on his lap and rested my head on his shoulder. "Do you have to go to school?"
"Yes, Aid."
I groaned. "I don't want you to go."
"Do you need me to stay, Aiden?" His mom asked, turning around to look at me.
"You have to work."
"I have a couple sick days that need used up."
I shook my head. "I can't ask you to do that. Not when I'm just being a baby."
"Aiden, you're not being a baby." Lucas said, kissing my temple.
"I am."
"Why don't you eat something? Maybe that'll help a little bit."
"I'm not hungry."
"You need to eat."
I shook my head.
"Not even pancakes? I know you love my mom's strawberry pancakes."
I did. But I felt so awful that the thought of eating made me feel like I'd throw up.
"Come on. Just one pancake then you can go back to being sad."
"Okay." I mumbled.
His mom brought over a plate with a slightly pink pancake on it and set it down beside Lucas's plate since I was still in his lap.
"Do you want to stay here or do you want to go home?" Lucas asked, brushing my hair back from my face.
"Can I stay here?"
He smiled. "Yeah. You practically live here anyway. I'll even have mom leave lunch for you."
"You'll have me do what now?" His mother asked, bringing her own plate to the table.
"Okay, I'll make lunch for you and leave it in the fridge."
"Thank you."
Before he left, Lucas tucked me into his bed. "Text me if you need anything, okay?"
I nodded.
"It'll be okay, Aid."
I stared at the small hole in the comforter that had been there as long as I could remember.
He kissed my forehead "I love you."
I hugged him tightly, letting go before I got tears all over his clothes. "I love you too."
