Mark woke to the sharp, shrill sound of a beeping alarm. He groaned and turned over, slamming his fist on the snooze button. Five more minutes wouldn't hurt anybody. Though he tried, he couldn't fall back asleep. His mind flooded with the thoughts and images of last night's phone call. Jack hasn't texted or called back since. Mark had chalked it down to Jack's phone dying. As soon as he accepted this thought, the ringtone for Jack's number echoed through his room. He rapidly turned over and hit the answer button, hitting the off button on his clock and putting the phone to his ear simultaneously.
"Jack?"
"Hey, Mark." He was relieved to hear Jack was okay.
"Hey buddy. You scared me last night," Mark laughed.
"Huh?" Jack sounded confused. Mark looked around the room through tired eyes, staring at nothing in particular before fixating his eyes on the cars driving out his window.
"Ah, nothing," Mark reassured him. "Just a little phone glitch."
"Oh."
"So, how you feelin' today?" Mark said, changing the subject.
"Surprisingly, a lot better!" Jack said. "Hey, if you're down for it, we can record that video today?"
"Sure. Gotta finish up a thumbnail and then we can," Mark said, sitting up and stretching, his fingers brushing the headboard.
"All right then! Just text me when then," Jack said.
"Got it, bye."
"Bye!"
