8.Eight

The morning buzzer sounded and everyone got up. Ellie woke  Alex and Light up from their slumber with a gentle tap. "Wake up, bro", Ellie said. "I have something to tell you". Alex got out of bed and walked with Light and Ellie. As they walked out into the arena and joined the bathroom line. Ellie found Eleven and Twelve and dragged them over to Light and Alex and told them the story. "So", Ellie began. "I sneaked out last night to see what the unlucky numbers were doing an I saw two guards arguing. One of them was yelling at the other because he wasn't knocking kids out hard enough, that explains why we can start remembering stuff now". Eleven, Twelve, Alex and Light all had their mouths open when they heard this. "You mean someone has been fudging up the system!", Twelve said. Ellie nodded solemnly. Twelve sat back down and slumped her back. "Some guard most be feeling sorry for us", Light said. As the work buzzer sounded, Light, Alex, Ellie, Eleven and Twelve made a dash for the bathrooms and then went off to work.

Three people died of Arena disease while working in the field. Ellie dragged them into their shallow graves while Alex kept digging grave after grave. Ellie kept an eye on the unlucky numbers, who was studying the week-old rotting dead bodies, she saw Thirteen eat a bug off the body they were studying. Alex was sweating and took a five-minute break, but the guards spotted him and told him to get back to work. Light collapsed from fatigue and Ellie rushed over to him. Alex dropped his shovel and ran over to the others. "Guys!", Alex shouted. "Light collapsed!". Twelve and Eleven dropped what tool they were holding and ran over to the other side of the field.

When they got over, Light was twitching. "Light!", Eleven shouted. "You can make it bro!" Light didn't respond, instead, he just threw up. "Stay back", Eleven said. "He has Arena disease". Light did a few last breaths before passing out, then silently died. "We got fresh meat", Twelve shouted. Thirteen came over and dragged Light away. "Don't cry", Alex said. "Loads of people die from this". Eleven and Twelve headed back to their jobs in the field and so did Ellie and Alex.

Dinner came around finally, to Ellie it felt like days. She ate her Glop with Alex, Eleven and Twelve in silence. She was traumatized by Lights sudden death. When night rolled around and time to go to the cabin, she stayed out. Ellie went over to Thirteen, his friends weren't there so she approached him. "Hey", he said, before she touched his shoulder. "Stay with me and you won't feel sad."
