29. Twenty Nine

Azrail ran with Thirteen to the Arena, he knew Maximus would wake up and find him. He could feel Maximus's presence, even though he was out when they left, Azrail hadn't hit him that hard. "C'mon, Maximus is following us", Azrail said to Thirteen. Thirteen ran close behind Azrail, he followed Azrail as he had a better idea of what way the Arena was. Bushes rustled, creeping Thirteen out. They finally reached the Arena. the guards that stood podium outside, were killed. "Look's like he got here before us", Azrail said. Thirteen caught his breath, he could hear shovels, so there was still life in the Arena. "These bodies are still warm", Azrail said. he knew they didn't have much time. "Thirteen, listen to me carefully. This is the key to the iron door, go through this door you take the stairs all the way to the top. Right where the stairs finish there's a wooden door. Go through that door and you will see a control panel, he put this key in the lock and turn it. Got that?". Thirteen nodded, he took the key off Azrail and started his journey. Azrail watched Thirteen go into the door and turned around. "Why are you ruining everything we've worked for?", Maximus said, walking towards Azrail. "I'm doing the right thing, maybe then I will be freed from this prison", Azrail answered. Maximus growled, "You are betraying us", he said. "So be it", Azrail said. Maximus pounced at Azrail, taking him to the ground and biting him. "You've ruined everything!", Maximus shouted. "I'm ashamed I created you like this", Azrail said, punching the dog in the jaw. "You made me like this", Maximus said. "You are a clone of Cerebus, it's in your DNA". Azrail grabbed Maximus and threw him to the ground. Azrail grabbed a rock and while he was down, started bashing Maximus's head in. "I'm sorry it had to come to this", Azrail said, tears streaming down his face. "I'll see you in hell", Maximus said, before he died. Azrail got up and watched his feet start turning to dust.

Thirteen reached the control room, He could see all the poor kids working in the fields. He was overwhelmed with emotion. If he did go back, what he go back to? he had killed all his friends while he was in this realm. Thirteen looked at the key in his hand, he was torn. Suddenly the sky turned dark, the clouds black. He saw a piece of the Arena wall fall to the ground; Maximus had been defeated, Azrail was fading away, this time was coming to the end. Thirteen got up, put the key into the lock and turned it. An alarm went off, Thirteen ran down the stairs and into the Arena, he saw it began to collapse. He got the fields, where all the kids were starting to disappear down tubes. Thirteen looked down at his feet and saw the ground cave in. "Goodbye Azrail, goodbye hell, I'll see you in another life. Thirteen fell down a tube, he closed his eyes, scared. Azrail watched what he had created crumble, he was fading away. He watched himself slowly turn into dust. The Arena fell, nothing but rubble. "I am finally free", Azrail said, he closed his eyes and he turned to dust.
