Chapter 2

Flying to Golany

"Why are we at the stables? Where are we going? Please, what's happening?!" Shaylana screamed in a hurry.

"I think we are going to get the pegasi." replied Melissa.

"Yes, of course! But why!?" Shaylana looked at the guards surrounding them.

"So we escape to...uhh...Golany? I have never heard of a place called Golany..." murmured Melissa to herself.

"Why does everyone think Golany is a place?!" cried the lead guard in frustration. "Golany is not a place but a person, okay!?" Oops. Should I have said that? he thought.

"Ok ok, my goodness. So, we have attacks once in awhile, but Father has never sent us away before? Why is he now?" Shaylana headed to Loreena's stall, her pegasus waited patiently for her.

Meanwhile, Melissa headed into Orion's stall. She stroked the large powerful black stallion.

"We don't know for sure, but, this attack is something much worse. Golany will explain, and so will I, on the way." The leading guard took a white soldier pegasus out of a stall.

Melissa hurriedly draped a thick navy blue blanket, embroidered with gold thread over Orion's back.

"Hey boy. We are running away. The palace got attacked." she whispered into his

velvety ear.

"Come on Lore, we have to get away from here quick, I guess. I don't know how long we will be gone. Wait a second, what about supplies and food?" She put the heavy blue blanket over the white diamond shape on Loreena's back.

"Do not worry, your highness. We keep an emergency storage of food in these packs." replied a soldier, proudly lifting up a leather rucksack.

"Humph, what about money and clothes? And, I'm not leaving here without my bow and arrow." Lana grumpily put the leather sack on Lory's back.

"We thought you might say that we brought it here for you plus your sword, and we brought your poisonous darts and rings, Princess Melissa." A guard came over with the weapons. "And for money, here's about 500 pounds, and you can get clothes at Borlen, the town we're going to. Plus, you will get more money there."

"Is 500 pounds too much?" asked Melissa worriedly.

"Maybe...maybe not. It should be able to get us through. Now let's set off!" exclaimed the lead guard urging his pegasus out into the open.

Melissa gripped Orion's silky mane and swung onto his back. "Let's go, boy." she clucked and Orion spread his wings. They took off into the wide open air. Melissa breathed deeply.

"Ahh. I just love being up here! I feel so free and unconstrained." she sighed happily.

"Me-Mel, look down." Shaylana was looking down, tears at her eyes.

Melissa eyed Lana's tears. She slowly glanced down to the world below her. There, they could see thousands of soldiers, not theirs, heading toward the castle, dead guards and guests lay, covering the ground.

"Oh no. Do you think Father and Mother are all right?" asked Melissa her eyes brimming with salty tears. The lead guard solemnly stared down at the corpses littering the earth below.

"We are the second biggest kingdom in our world, so people will come to help us. I'm sure they are fine, but so many of the guests, are..gone." Lana laid her chest down, hugging Loreena.

"D-do you think Papidoulos and John Manly Harrington are alright?" whispered Melissa quietly. "I did not like them very much but I would hate them to be dead." Melissa buried her face into Orion's soft mane.
