I finished reading Alex's note for the millionth time and decided to toss it... I had already given her my response, and she didn't even care enough to respond. It's just a one night stand. That's all it was. I couldn't dwell on it anymore. She's out of my life. And attempt to distract myself, I messaged my best friend Polly to see if she'd like to go somewhere-anywhere except that bar. That shit hole bar that allowed me to meet the most intriguing woman ever. BZZZ... BZZZ... I look down at my phone hoping it's Alex for some reason-Polly.
"Hey," I say, thing to sounds like my cheerful self.
"What's wrong? You've got that sad tone," well I guess my attempt to sound normal failed.
"Is really rather not talk about it. Can we just go out and get shitfaced drunk?" I plead. Maybe alcohol will help me forget her.
"Umm... Pipes... it's 10:30 is the morning. How about a movie? There's this really good one about a guy-" my best friend drones in and on, but I remain transitioned on the nickname Alex called me that Polly repeated- definitely without the same effect.

"So how'd you like the movie, Piper?" Polly asked me.
"It was nice. I liked the part when they end together," I lied. Holly gave me a disappointed look. I swear she could read my mind sometimes... Either that or I need to work on my lying. Probably a mix of both.
"You could've at least lied better," she started. "You checked your phone about 100 times throughout the whole movie even though you never had a single message!" Gee thanks, poly. I definitely needed a reminder that Alex still doesn't care enough to respond. She was most likely having a good time with Silvy. Alex's beautiful dimples showing as her angel like laugh fills in entire room- "Hello?! Earth to Piper? Are you even listening?"
"You were still talking?" I accidentally said out loud receiving an aggravated groan from Polly. BZZZ... BZZZ... before I could even register that it was my phone not rang, Polly grabbed it and answered. Shit.
"Hey!" Polly chirped, obviously attempting to sound like me. I tried everything to retrieve my phone, but probably was much quicker than me. Very suddenly, Polly's face went from cheerful to serious as she handed my phone to me and whispered it's for you. I returned with a quiet No, shit! and put my ear to the phone, silently praying it was Alex on the other line.
"Pipes?" Chills moved across my skin is I heard that deep, sensual voice. "Is that you?" I wanted to answer her, even apologize, but I had to remember what she did. She has a girlfriend.
"No, never call this number again," I ordered and immediately hung up before I could hear another word. I had to stay strong. It was the right thing to do. Wasn't it?
     "Who was-" Polly began.
"Forget it. Let's go to my place," I say, trying to fight the urge to call her back.
