Ok well there's no way I'm going to dinner alone.
No matter how hungry I may be...
Nope, I'm not embarrassing myself even more by showing up as the weird girl with no friends. Even though that's exactly who I am. Just as I'm closing the door to my room a group of kids walk by, one makes eye contact with me and stops in her tracks.
"Hey guys wait up!" she calls to the others. She seems different from my roommate and her friends, this girl and her friends aren't wearing anything fancy like them, in fact they have nothing more than ripped jeans and tee shirts.
"Hey." she removes her hair from her face.
"Hey," I say.
"You must be the new girl, huh?"
"I am."
"I'm Melody, this is Samone, and this is Jason."
"Nice to meet you," I say,"I like your hair." I say to Jasom who happens to have the same hair style as me which is odd considering he's a dude.
"Aren't you going to dinner?" asks Samone.
"Um... nah... I'm good." I shrug.
"C'mon our cafeteria serves the best food. Way better than the public school."
"I'm not exactly dressed to go to dinner." I say.
"Just throw on a tee shirt and jeans, you'll be fine." says Jason.
"Are you sure? My roommates were dressed so...?"
Melody leans back to read the room number. "hmm." she says. "Can we come in?"
"Sure."
"That's a lot of pink." says Jason.
"That's exactly what I said."
"Yep, you're definitely rooming with Stephanie."
"Don't worry about them, they're always overdressed anyway." Says Melody.
"Ok then, I'll go get dressed and join you all for dinner." I grab a tee shirt and some jeans and quickly change.
"You ready?" asks Samone.
"Yeah I'm ready." we walk down the hall and I just quietly listen to their conversation until they include me.
"So we never did get your name." says Melody.
"Oh my gosh, sorry it's Ed my name is Ed."
"Ed? That's pretty cool." says Jason.
"Actually my name is Edith but I don't like that name so friends and classmates call me Ed but good friends call me Eden."
"Consider us good friends, Eden." says Samone with a wink.
"What part of America are you from?"
"California. Los Angeles, California."
"Really? That's wicked cool." says Melody.
"I do miss the place but I'm happy to be here."
"Good because here we are."
Jason pushes open the large wooden door, revealing the extraordinary dining room with about five long rows of tables going through the middle, the polished wood reflecting the light from the chandeliers, the aroma of each food mixing in perfectly with the next.
"Wow. This is beautiful."
"Isn't it? Whelp I'm absolutely starving let's eat." Samone guides me to get trays and food while Melody and Jason find us seats.
"I like your hair, the blonde with the brown goes perfectly with the light pink." says Samone.
"Thanks."
"But I have to ask, which is your natural hair color? Or are you secretly a red head?"
"Oh I'm naturally a brunette and the blonde highlights are all natural as well."
"Hmm you don't say?"
"I like your hair too." I say referring to her brown, shoulder length curls.
"Thanks." she smiles.
We sit down to eat at the table on the far left side in the back.
"Aren't you guys going to eat?" I ask Melody and Jason.
"No, we drink blood." says Jason.
I give them both strange looks until Melody bursts out laughing.
"He's joking! Totally fooling around! You should've seen the look on your face!"
"Priceless." laughs Jason.
"Oh.. haha.." I say.
"We leave campus and eat before dinner."
"Oh, we can do that?"
"No. Not without supervision but you can if you don't get caught."
"Oh."
"So how long will you be staying in England? Will you be graduating here?" asks Samone.
"I believe so. That's the plan anyway."
"Awesome!" says Jason.
"But, I'll only be at Hammond for the rest of the semester. Until my mom gets everything transferred here to Cheshire. Then I'll be switching over to Holmes Chapel Contemporary."
"What? Why?" Asks Samone.
"Well I came to England for a reason. I came to find my boyfriend. He moved here and I lost contact with him so when I found out that he attends Holmes Chapel Contemporary I did everything I could to make sure that I attend that school as well."
"Awe how sweet." sighs Samone.
"So you came all the way to Cheshire for some boy who's already forgotten about you?" asks Melody
"He hasn't forgotten about me. He left me a note saying that he loves me and when you love somebody you can't just forget about them."
"Eden, when you're fifteen, you don't know what love is."
"You don't know Harry." I say.
"You're right, I don't."
