He holds me in his arms tighter than ever, as if someone's pulling me away.
"Why didn't you tell me?" he mumbles into my shoulder.
"I'm sorry I know I should've but Jack said I shouldn't. He told me to wait he-"
"Jack?!" he exclaims.
"Yes."
"That twat! How could you listen to someone so low?"
"He's not a twat! He was my friend when no one else was."
"I would've approached you sooner if I would've known it was you."
"No you wouldn't. You were dating Stephanie, remember?"
"I would've left her," he puts his hands on my shoulders.
"What's the point of dating someone you'd dump so quickly for someone else?"
He only clenches his jaw.
"Maybe Jack was right about you, maybe you have changed," I say.
"I've changed? Have you seen yourself lately? Such heavy makeup, ripped jeans, pink hair? I didn't even recognize you that's how much you've changed."
"I've only changed my style and that was part of the look I had to put on to get here in the first place."
"Eden, you're look isn't all you've changed. I would've been able to tell it was you by your personality but that's transformed as well."
"How so?"
"For starters, the old Eden wouldn't have lied." With that, he storms out of the shop.
"Harry wait." Before I can stop him he's already gone. I go up to the register to pay for my dress but it seems like he already has.
"Oh that young man who just left payed for your dress when you got here," she smiles, "he's a keeper."
I run out to catch up with Harry but he's no where in sight. He must be really disappointed to leave me like this to walk home alone.
When I enter the house Gemma and a friend are sat on the couch. I run upstairs to talk to Harry but he's not here, he must've taken the long way home. Here I lay, alone in my bed just as before. Was he right about me changing? The fact that I would change just to be with him, doesn't that show how much I care about him? About us? I should just give him space so that he can see that for himself.
"Hey, you alright?"
"Yeah, yeah. I'm fine. Shouldn't you be with your friend?" I ask.
"I sent her home so that we could talk."
"I'm fine really," I say.
"No you're not. You don't have to tell me what happened or what's wrong but you do have to promise me that you'll start thinking about yourself. Stop worrying about pleasing everyone else and please yourself. Once you be who you are then the rest will follow."
The relationship I have with Gemma is indescribable. She's not a friend, she's more. She's not family because she doesn't hold anything against me and make me feel guilty even when I'm wrong. She's a girl who gives me a sense of security.
I embrace Gemma in a hug and she jumps a bit shocked then hugs me back.
"So you know, you don't need a date to go to the prom?"
"How'd you know that was the problem?" I ask.
"I didn't til' just now," she smiles, "you should go, with or without him."
"I'd like to say I could go with some friends but I didn't really make any while I was at Holmes Chapel."
"You sure?" she asks.
"Well, there is one friend.."
"It's okay, go with them. It's Harry's loss anyway. It's time you show Mr. Styles what he's missing."
