*Chapter Three*
Today I woke up without the annoying buzz of my alarm. Instead, I woke up 20 minutes early which is a huge achievement in my part.
Maybe it's this new soap I'm using, I wonder.
Anyway, I did everything I usually did in my morning routine including breakfast and went up to check my clock.
06:30 AM, Thursday. Exactly on time.
I hopped down my big apartment and made sure to lock the door and open the windows for fresh air, and just as I got near my precious BMW, my phone rang. I didn't recongize the number which is strange and pressed the green button on my Blackberry Curve.
"Lorelai Stewart speaking, can I help you?" I asked.
I noticed that the other voice is a man's who sounds to be late 20's or early 30's. I know this because my mother used to take me with her to these 'Observation Classes'.
"No, but I'm here to help you!" the man said, "My name is Jeffrey and I am a talent agent at Rock-an-Act Agency and I saw a few of the auditions that you have done for past movies and, quite unsuccessfully, a few theater productions. You are good and I would like to send you my business card. Call me anytime and we will set up a meeting." By this time I was speechless.
"Where did you get my number?" I managed to ask.
What else was I suppposed to say?
"That is confidential. Just please read the card and contact me for further questions. Goodbye now!"
And just like that, the call was cut off without me even saying goodbye. This is supposed to be creepy, but excitement is slowly bubbling up.
After about a minute of being speechless, my phone beeped with a new message. It was the business card. I opened it and sure enough, there were all the contact information and even a BBM pin. This guy has to be desperate to find someone with enough talent to please him. I saved it and went to work.
When I got there, the store was closed and then I remembered that today they are renovating the entire store. Just my luck that I didn't remember! What's wrong with me?
Getting in the car I sped home. There wasn't much traffic because I take alternative routes to and from work everyday.
As soon as I got home, i took off my shoes and checked that business card again. Should I call? Would that sound too desperate? Or is the dude waiting for my call? One way to find out. I quickly saved the number and dialed. It wasn't even two rings when he picked up.
"I was waiting for your call, Miss Stewart." he said. What should I do now? I called without even knowing what I was gonna say!
"Uhm, well," I said, "You did give me your number..."
"Yes. Now are you busy this afternoon? Because as soon as you sign the contract I already have a few people for you to meet." Said Jeffrey.
Already? "No I'm not busy today. Can we meet at that little coffee shop that just opened?" I asked.
He said yes and I gave him a time that we can meet. It might be risky, but at least if it's true, something good will come out of it. Right?
So this afternoon, I went to the new coffeeshop which i realized was called The Rose Garden because of a park just a few blocks down that has been converted to an actual rose garden. Cool right? Anyway, it has been half an hour now and I've already had two cups of coffee when the bell rang to signal a new customer. It was a man who looked about thirty-two who was wearing a grey satin suit with polished black shoes. He looked around for a few seconds before spotting me.
He quickly came over and sat right across from me. "Jeffrey?" I asked. He smiled very broadly and extended a hand out to me. I stood up and shook his hand. Firm grip, I must say. "The almost famous Lorelai Stewart." He said then giving me a hug after the handshake. The smile never left his face even when he ordered his latte.
"So," he said. "I am not sure if you have heard of me before, but I'm an agent at Rock-an-Act Agency. It is a pleasure to meet you Miss Stewart."
"Call me Lori." I said. He gave me a few papers that was neatly piled in a pink folder with the words 'Contract' written in bold letters. "Lori, this is the contract which I want you to sign. Whenever you're ready, of course." I took the folder and put it in my shoulder bag.
"Can you give me a few days?" I asked. I had to find out if this guy was legit or not. "Of course. Just call me whenever you're ready and I will meet you here at the same time as today. Just let me know when." He said. We chatted for a while about everything that he's expecting from me and so far it looks pretty good.
He paid for my coffees and his latte then left.
Today was surely memorable.
