(Sarah's POV)
I woke up in a small room. At first I thought I was in the castle but then I saw Emanuel sitting in a chair, watching me. I sat up with a start as memories of when he took me came back. I moved to the side of the bed to put more space between us. Looking out the window I realized it was still dark outside.
"I have been waiting." I turned back to Emanuel as he spoke.
"Why?"
"You were asleep the whole way here."
I flinched at how casually he said asleep, almost as if I fell asleep In my bed and not by being choked. "Where is here?"
"The outskirts of the village, opposite from the Castle."
I knew the outskirts were big. If we were opposite from the castle it must almost be light out, it could take half a day to ride through the village to reach where we were. "They will be searching for me."
Emanuel got up and slowly walk toward me. "Maybe, but by the time they get here it would be to late." He sat on the edge of the bed.
I stood up and took a couple of steps back. "Why are you doing this?"
I watched as Emanuel stood up and tried to approach me again. "I already told you. I want to cause your precious Prince pain. I also need an heir." I took a few more steps back but found myself up against a wall. Emanuel put is hands on the wall. I was trapped. He had his arms on either side of me. I looked at the door then back at him. "Don't think about it," he said.
"Are there other people who live here?"
"Yes."
"They were involved in this?"
"No. They didn't recognize you. With such a big Kingdom the faces of the castle don't reach all the way out here. They thought you were injured and are letting us stay for a while."
"You have innocent people helping you?" I needed him to be a little more distracted.
"In a way. This will all benefit me. Those people will be happy with me. Your father will want nothing to do with you. This will all make him easier to kill."
I was going to make my move but his words made me stop. "Kill?"
"Yes. People want your father dead. Me included. After the death of the poor Queen," He said disgusted, "he lost it. The Queen was stupid for choosing him. She could have had any one but she chose him. She had opportunities to rule bigger countries but she chose little Scotland."
"She was in love."
"Yes love. It makes us do stupid things. I loved my late wife. She was wonderful." This was it I thought. With him talking about his wife I could escape. "She was beautiful. She died a year after we were married. She fell ill. She wanted a child-" I made me move.
I pushed him away, then kicked him. I first kicked his knee but that wasn't what I was aiming for. My second kick was dead on though. He cried out in pain. I saw his knife on the floor. It must have fell from is pocket. I picked it up and slashed his cheek. "That was revenge." Still clutching the knife I ran to the door. I was glad to find it unlocked. I threw it open and ran down the hall. I didn't pause at the stairs and ran them.
I didn't stop. I ran out of the house . I ran through the streets and past houses. I knew that Emanuel wouldn't stop. He would come looking for me. I had to put as much distance between myself and the house he was in. I ran around corners, making sure I didn't turn and run back toward the house.
