A few weeks had past since the in incident with Lukkas, and things had mostly gone back to normal.

I was in the bathroom, looking at my reflection. I hated the way my dress looked on me. And it didn't have sleeves. It wasn't as cold as last week, but still chilly. I finally went down stairs.

My dad smiled after I bounded down from my room. "You look great Rainia."

"Thank you father." I returned his smile.

"Alright everyone let's head to the school." announced my mom. "I want to get there early to meet with Mr.  Gridson. Robin stay here and don't make trouble."

I nodded. "Okay mother." Robin's voice floated from the next room.

We headed outside with all the other families. I saw Ally and Lukkas and waved their families over.

"Hey guys," I greeted them. I could see Ally's new tattoo on her left forarm. It had the name 'Glia' scrawled across it.

"Hey Rain. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas." Lukkas nodded his head politely. When he glanced up at his dad afterwords I have him a curious look. He shrugged in response.

"It's a nice night." Ally observed.

"Mr. Gridson." my mother said, greeting her co-worker.

"Nice to see you all tonight." he said in a deep voice.

We continued walking. When we reached the school, Ally lead us to the cafiteria, which had been filled with round tables.

I saw Hudson, Quinn, and Rose's family sitting at one. They waved us over and we sat.

I stifled a yawn. Right before Lukkas sat down, his dad spoke.

"Lukkas why don't you go get us some drinks."

"Yes sir." he said, standing again.

"What job do you want?" Hudson whispered to me. Which was illegal.

"Yes I do think the decorations are nice Hudson." I said loudly. A few people turned their heads. I smiled apologetically. Better than an Infraction I suppose.

He rolled his eyes and muttered something under his breath.

"Ladies and Gentlemen! Now announcing the new jobs!" the announcer yelled, getting right to the point.

He went through a lot of names before he got to someone I knew.

"Hudson Marsh! Executive of Agriculture Development in training!"

He stood up and waved at everyone. In return, people clapped. People always clap for Hudson.

"Ally Walker! Accounting!"

"Rose Rickson! Transportation Mechanics!"

"Quinn Rickson! Field worker!"
Quinn sat down looking upset. I understood why, field work was long, borning, and almost impossible to get promoted.

"Lukkas Gridson! Personal Guard!" Lukkas met his dad's eyes then stood, smiling.

"Rainia Thomas! Personal Guar- wait personal guard? Is that a mistake? Didn't she test for Accounting?" I froze when he started questioning my job placement. I quietly sat. Hudson caught me glance and have me a reassuring smile that helped me calm down.

The announcer moved on and kept calling names. My mom put her hand on my shoulder.

"Why don't you take a walk with your friends?" she told more than asked.

"Yes mother." I responded and got up again. Hudson and Ally followed me out into the hallway.

"Is everything okay Rain?" Hudson asked.

"No! I'm a guard? A personal guard!" I said glancing at him.

"Its okay." he shrugged. "It'll be more interesting then my job at least."

He took my hand.

"I promise. It'll be fine. And we'll still have a basic combat classes together for a few days." Hudson assured.

I nodded. "Yeah," I smiled weakly. "I guess so.

"Guys," Ally whispered, staring at our interlocked hands. "We really can't be doing this here. You'll get an Infraction."

We all when quiet, remebering what Lukkas said about Infractions. I pulled my hand away from his. "She's right Hud." I looked down.

We walked back to the hall in silence.

"Welcome back honey." My mom greeted me.

I didn't know how to respond to a statement like that.

"Yes mother." I stammered.

"Are you okay Rain?"

I faked a smile. "Yes mother." I coated my voice in confidence. She bought it.

"No, you aren't feeling well." Nevermind.

"To be honest I'm getting a headache."  I lied again.

My mom layed the back of her hand on my forehead. "You do feel hot." she glanced around the table. "You there. With the muscles." she pointed to Hudson. "Take Rain home please."

"Yes ma'am." Hudson stood and walked me outside.

"Are you really feeling bad?" he asked as soon as we were out of hearing range.

"Yes. Maybe. I don't know." I sighed.

"Hey, it'll be alright." he put his arm around me and pulled me closer.

"Hudson!" I scolded. I pulled my gray sweater over the empty space on my left forearm to hide the fact that he wasn't my soulmate - at least not yet.

"You can't do that! How many times do I have to tell you?" I groaned, exasperated. But that didn't stop me from leaning on him just a little.

"I know, I know. I can't help it." He smiled at me.

"Whatever." It didn't really matter anyways, right?

After I glanced around and made sure no one was watching, I let my head drop on his shoulder.

"You'll be so far away." His voice was somber.

"Its okay, I can visit. You never know what will happen." I reassured.

He nodded silently. We reached my house.

"Goodnight Rain." he said.

"Goodnight Hudd." I replied. He wrapped me in his arms. I rested my head next to his. And everything seemed okay.

Alright I know it's cliche. But just this once, I promise. You try making a really complicated, non-cliche novel. Its hard you know. Just this once, I promise.

Keep in mind that this does not mean you won't be screaming at me in the next chapter.
