"Hey." I said shyly, blinking after the blast of light.
He didn't respond. He grabbed my left sleeve and rolled it up to watch the mark slowly appear.
"You know," he started. "You'll see it every time you shoot." He was staring at the mark on his arm.
"I guess so," I looked up at him. "What's wrong with your eye?" It wasn't shadowy like I though, just another bruise. It almost made his eyes look gray.
He touched it, as if remembering it was there. "Ah, my compound rebounded. I was testing a new tighness and my grip slipped."
"Okay." I replied, still feeling awkward.
"Do you want to go somewhere quieter?" he said with a grin.
"No where is quiet with you nearby." I replied, but he pulled me along anyways.
"I never thought I would be with you." he said out of the blue, sitting against a wall outside the cafeteria.
"Really? Never?" I asked joining him.
"Did you?" he laughed.
"Well no," I admitted. "But if we were meant for each other than that's that."
"You say it like you have to love me." his eyes met mine. Two steel blue eyes connected with mine. They reminded me of Hudson's and I looked away.
"Well, technically I do." I mused. When he didn't respond I knew I messed up.
"But I think I would have loved you even if we didn't Match." I'm not sure if it was sincere or not.
We sat together for a while, neither one of us knowing what to say.
"I won't be in school tomorrow." Lukkas informed.
"Why not?" I asked.
"My... Dad needs work help." he explained slowly.
"Yay. I got a boy who is awful at lying. What are you really doing?"
"I want to spend time at home before I leave. With my parents." He said faster.
"Sounds like fun."
"Yep." he replied.
We were moving to a training base for further career development. After a while we would start working.
"Will you miss me tomorrow?" he teased, standing up.
"You wish Lukkas." I said as he left.
. . ."I can't believe you right now," a voice said behind me as I walked home from school. I turned around and saw Hudson.
"It wasn't my fault." My voice was cold, hardened and came out more defensive than I wanted it to.
"It was supposed to be us! You were supposed to be with me!" he yelled.
"Hudson! Lukkas is my soulmate, and you can't do anything to change that. I wasn't meant to be with you." my voice grew quiet. "Maybe it's for the better."
"Lukkas? Lukkas is your soulmate? He isn't your type." he protested.
"Oh, so know you get to determine what 'my type' is too?" I demanded. "Hudson, you need to go. I'm supposed to be with Lukkas. I'm sorry things didn't go your way." I turned and walked to my house.
I quietly closed the door and saw his face out the window. He was standing in shock. His mouth was hanging slightly open.
And his blue eyes were broken.
I'm going to do something a little off script and actually talk about what I just wrote. And for the record, this was the plan from the beggining. Lets make a perfectly cliche character. Lets make him handsome and awesome at what he does, and make it seem like he gets to be with the protaginist, but nope.
He doesn't. He won't. I really, truly, honestly, want this to annoy you - nay, torture you with emotions. That's what good writing gets you to do.
Sorry not sorry.
Just for the record, I did warn you. I said I would only be cliche once. Once people, and I already used that. If you missed my hint, too bad for you.
