"Rain, you need to learn how to do this. I'll be here with you." Lukkas said next to me.
"I don't like it. It scares me." I mumbked, holding the thing I had been informed was a gun in front of me.
We were standing it an open storage room with boxes set up for targets.
"Corwin wanted me to check on you." A familiar face popped in the doorway. "And I'm Monti by the way."
"Well do you want to come in and join us?" I asked politely.
"Love to." Monti said strolling in. His eyes locked on Lukkas and his jaw dropped. "Damn." I heard him whispered while I choked back a laugh.
"Like this Rain." Lukkas held the device up, either not having heard or simply ignoring Monti's comment.
He pointed it at a target, then squinted an eye shut to check distance. He squeezed the trigger.
Something shot out of the barrel and smacked through the box. I could see a fairly clean hole where the bullet had flown.
"Well you sure have great accuracy." Monti said behind me, voice grinning.
"You try." Lukkas said, handing me the gun.
I held it an arms length away, hands sweaty as I gripped it. I could see my knuckles become bone as I tried lining up. I quickly squeezed the trigger.
I forgot to account for recoil like Lukkas had. The butt of the gun smacked me in the jaw, drawing blood.
"Ouch." Lukkas grimaced. "Yeah don't do that."
"Really? I thought I was doing perfectly." I snapped, upset.
"Woah, calm down. Here I'll show you." He said, putting his hand around mine on the gun from behind me. "You have to bend your elbow, but only a little."
His finger pushed mine into the trigger, but this time the gun didn't snap back as much. I started wondering how Lukkas knew how to shoot a gun so well.
"You can show me what to do with my hands Lukkas." Monti said, wiggling his eyebrows and picking up a gun.
"Pass." He replies with a snort.
"Rain and Lukkas." Corwin swung the door open. "Get your stuff ready. The community is camped out above us, waiting us out. We go tomorrow." He quickly ran off the deliver the message to more people.
Everyone stayed silent for a moment, taking in the fact that we would most likely die tomorrow.
"Well let's go get some sleep." Lukkas muttered. I noticed that when we left the room, he took the gun with him, silently tucking it inside his waist band.
We reached the room we had been sleeping in. There were cots covering the floor to accomodate the ten other people in the room.
We collapsed face first on a low cot in the corner.
"Move over." He grumbled, shoving a hand in my face playfully.
"You move over." I said doing the same.
I turned on to my back, shoulder resting on Lukkas as he did the same.
"You know, you won't die tomorrow." Lukkas said.
"How's that?" I asked, curious.
"I'm not going to let you." He leaned his head on my neck.
I was quiet for a long time, listening to our hearts beat.
"What are you thinking about?"
"Robin," I replied. "Lukkas if they do to him what they did to you..." I trailed off, fighting tears.
