From your seat in the cafeteria, you could see his silhouette. he was munching on a ham sandwich. his eyebrows furrowed. his lips stretching downwards.
you know you should probably thank him. he was the reason you got a B for your Bio test.
you knew that he could feel your piercing stare from the way his eyes darted nervously all over his plate. his long lashes casted shadows across his face that elongated and diminished. Faded and darkened. you thought he looked unique for a second. Almost attractive. Cute.
From the way his cheeks pigmented when you talk to him, you knew he had developed a crush on you. A crush that seemed so futile to him. A sort of crush that sometimes he questioned it's existence. Something that he locked up deep under his facade of misery and which you easily opened up with a mere shy of your smile.
his eyes hidden by those glasses were special. they saw you for what you really are. they didn't see the dumb girl craving for attention, behind your carefully applied make up. they saw the lively girl who had a shrill note to her laughter.
Balling your fists in determination, you stand up from your seat. And you walk over to him. he looks up at you with puzzlement.
you think of all those cold days, you wore miniskirts to school just to see the awed expressions. you think of all those evenings, you forced yourselves to date jocks who liked nothing else than stare at your legs and boast about their Ferraris. you think of all those nights, you gulped down gallons of foul liquids to prove that you are the star of the party.
All that you have done to attain popularity. Now it would be in vain. you couldn't let that happen.
And that's why you choose to dump your half eaten mango yogurt all over his denim.
And that's why you choose to recreate another painful scenario that deemed him victim.
The mocking was still the same.
The pain inflicted on him was still the same.
It was just that your laughter that followed had turned even shriller. you became skilled at faking your laughter.
your laughter replayed in his mind that entire night and oozed several tears over his pillow. The pillow sucked it all, indifferent of the saltiness. It was greedy. But never left unsatisfied.
