she was happy nowadays

she was happy nowadays. her cheeks no longer hurt when she smiled. her eyes shone like dew drops glinting in the first sun rays of the day, behind her translucent and extremely pale eyelids. she hummed strange songs whose names she could never recollect and their sweetness dissipated as soon as it left her mouth, leaving a pleasant addicting aftertaste in her tongue.

she skipped around and over non existent puddles. she chased stray cats all over the town and teased their excited tails with those wild reeds she had plucked from the lakeside. she laid on the roof and watched the clouds glide over the sky, through the little patches of bright sky between the dark leaves of trees. she relaxed in the delicate broken melodies of the wind-chime when it was tickled by the wind. she kissed strawberries and felt their gritty skin on her chapped cold-bitten lips, before consuming them.

she had learnt to enjoy her life. And it was all because of him.

she was content with the girl she saw in his eyes. Every detail of her had been layered with his passionate love in his eyes. she loved to see her reflection in his beautiful warm brown eyes. she still felt insecure about herself but when she was with him, her own earthly self would melt away, leaving her soul bare and in need of his glow. The time she spent with him, was divine.

she started to eat. her anorexic lifestyle was soon forgotten. When her mind was occupied of thoughts of his eyes and carelessly ruffled mop of dark hair, she failed to calculate the amount of calories she had consumed. And she was beginning to like that pink glowing sheen that her cheeks were starting to acquire rather than the pale gauntly hollow cheeks. Moreover he liked it too and that was enough for her.

The only sadness in her life was those fresh wounds that layered his old scars. New bleeding scarlet ones alloyed with the old wrinkled scars. New pain alloyed with the old pain. Despite how hard he hid them under his long sleeved jumpers, they always found her eyes. she felt deeply hurt whenever she saw them. she began to grow even more unsatisfied with herself. How is that she is unable to heal him? Is he not happy with her?

Though questions stormed her mouth, she restrained herself from asking him. her smiles became strained and her eyes glazed with unshed tears. the deceiving facade of happiness that he was weaving intricately failed before her. she saw through him. Witnessed his throttling pain and depression. And one day while walking from their therapy session to a cafe, she questioned him of that long scar that ran along his arm and of the deep one that ran over his heart. he merely shrugged it off. she stressed on it and rose her voice.

A clash of opinions, curses and claims of love followed later, smeared by her tears and intensified by his fury. his eyes dazzled and blood dripped down his stretched newly opened wounds. The sky stormed and the clouds mourned. she felt lost. her demons gripped her throat. she felt suffocated with her insecurities and love for him.

Water droplets ran down her nape. The cold drops felt like piercing poniards on her warm flushed skin. All she could remember of that day was her warm salty tears intermingling with the cold earthly rain as it trailed down her cheeks. The sound of each droplet as they unceremoniously hit the pavement. The cars sloshing water as they moved past their still bodies. The warm orange glow from the street lamps that illuminated the left side of his face. his words jumping and furiously dancing around each sharp rain droplet. he let go of her hand. The hand that he used to hold onto like dear life.

her vision blurred as his retreating silhouette slowly faded in the mist that arose from the cold drenched streets. she fell victim to his harsh words. she felt lost.

And on that day he left her in the rain. her heart which was marred by a thousand scars beat bravely in the cold rain.
