Chapter Song: Fix You / Coldplay
Avery's POV
"Mom!"
I ran up to my mom and pulled her into a hug.
"Hi Sweetie, how have you been?"
I thought about how I had cut myself twice while she was gone.
"Great!" I lied.
She nodded her head and walked into the kitchen to set down her keys and purse.
"Where's Dad?" I asked.
Her expression got a little bit darker, "He got called to go on another trip right after this one so he won't make it to your graduation."
I shouldn't have been sad, this sort of thing happened all the time, but I still managed to let it get to me.
Her expression brightened, "But, I did convince my boss to let me stay home for two weeks instead of one, so we can spend some time together until you graduate."
I felt a weak smile tugging at my mouth, "Oh, that's great."
She pulled out a chair for me and sat down in the one next to it.
"So," She hesitated, "What are your plans for after graduation?"
I explained to her that Tyler, Josh, and I would be leaving to go and make something of ourselves.
"Well, I can't blame you there, but why Tyler? You two haven't talked since sixth grade."
I looked out the window, "I don't know, we've been talking more and he's been helping me with stuff."
Her eyes lit up, "Oh, I see. You like him."
"Mom!" I exclaimed elbowing her lightly.
"Did you ask him to go to the formal on Saturday with you?"
I laughed at my mom as she attempted to be a teenaged girl again, "Actually, he asked me."
She stood up, "Well come on! We need to get you a dress!"
She pulled me outside and into the car.

"What about this one Avery?" She asked while pulling out a pink dress.
It was pretty with rhinestones on the collar, but the fact that it was sleeveless made me anxious.
"I told you, I want one that has sleeves."
"Okay, oka-" She stopped herself and pointed at a dress she saw in one of the shops catalogues.
