The two had been walking for a while now, and the path they traveled had not really seemed to get them any closer to their destination. Of course the path had to go somewhere, so they kept following it, Serena thought. They just kept walking, the ground beneath her bare feet. In a strange way, she wasn't cold or uncomfortable. Her body had just gone completely numb.
Rays if light shining theough the trees at a low angle indicated that it would soon be night. Soon they would need to find a place to rest, but not yet.
Ash was looking around for any signs of the end of the path. They had to be close, because the trees were considerably thinner. "Ahh" Serena said, and ash turned around to see what she saw. It was sunlight streaming nearly perpendicular, shining into his eyes. He quickly glanced away. 'It must be reflecting off of something' ash thought 'something metal... metal...'
"Were almost there!" He said, realizing the only reason that metal would've been there. Their pace sped up to a jog, as they were eager to get inside a heated room. Maybe have coffee or something.
As they ran, a building became visible. The brown-black roof shined brightly, as sunlight glanced off of the gutters. It was the small apartment that Calem had recently moved into. Serena surveyed the scene around her. Something seemed to be off. Then she saw something. It was Calem. Just out of the corner of her eye she saw him round the corner going behind the building. "Hey Calem!" She said walking after him. But when she rounded around the building, the Calem she saw wasn't his normal self. He had dark circles around his eyes, and his cloths were ripped in a few places. Beside him stood a machine that was oddly familiar.
"I did some research..." Calem began, as he flipped a few switches on the machine. "When you go into that state, you forget whatever you were thinking about... as your life flashes before your eyes, it's all erased away... and you and I were both there. We saw what he said before it happened, he was thinking about you" Calem switched another few parts of the machine on, and it started to make some noise "you know that you and ash make a good couple" he continued on "at first I wanted it to fail. I wanted to have another shot, but of course that wasn't right. You two seemed to great together, and... well... I've come to accept that. The only problem, was that I almost did something...... b-b-ba-bad. I.... well none of that matters now. Back to what I was talking about before, and... well just like him I'm thinking about you. That's why this will really be easy, but hard" Calem hit a large lever, and now the contraption sprung to life.
At that moment, Serena recognized what he had built. Or at least she had this feeling inside of her. This had happened before, hadn't it.
"My love had turned into hate" Calem spoke again "and I mustn't let it hurt anyone else, so I will turn it inward. It has been amazing to be your friend. Who knows, maybe we will meet again, of course I won't be able to tell"
Serena felt ash's hand on her shoulder, as the two of them looked up in awe "Stop, no.. Calem" Serena called out helplessly. But by now, darkness seemed to envelop him. As she saw him falling backwards,  her mind raced back to when she had seen this. Her dream, her own dream. It ash fading into Calem. After everything that they had gone through,  was it just going to be reset? And had this been her fault. Could it have? If she was there she could've stopped him. But then maybe this is for the best. No... how could she say suck a thing.
As Calem was nearly gone. A black cloud around him now separated her from him. She couldn't even say a goodbye. A loud sound then came from where Calem was. There he was. Falling from where he was suspended in darkness. She ran forward, catching him, sending them both tumbling to the ground. "Where am I" Calem asked, attempting to did up. Serena looked over at ash, who was standing beside the machine Calem had used. Ash was smiling, with a few cuts on his hand. Everywhere around him pieces of the machine say scattered across the ground. He had done it.
