"Booze cupboard locked?"
"Check."
"Knifes out of reach?"
"I can't even reach them."
"Porn channels on the tv locked?"
"Wait, do we even have those?"
"Err, never mind... I think the house is ready," I said confidently.
Alex smiled, "I think it is. But are we ready?"
I shrugged, "That's a good question. I'm kind of scared, but we still have time even it does go well today."
Alex put his arm around my waist, "It'll go great darling."
I half smiled, "I hope so. The room's ready, right?"
"All of our stuff has been moved into the basement and Rian helped me assemble the bed," he answered.
Today was the big day, well not the big day, but close enough. The home tour's today. I've been stressed out about it since it was scheduled. You never really realize how many things could be a danger to a child until you try to get rid of them. We also had to move all of our music stuff out of the studio room so it could be used as a bedroom. Right now it only has a bed, a dresser and a bookshelf, but we figured if everything went well and we got custody, we'd take her shopping to pick stuff out.
The social worker was due to arrive any minute now and I was freaking out. First of all, we waited until last minute to child proof. Which, with the help of our wonderful friends and families, took an entire day. It was absolutely terrible how dangerous our house was. I'm glad our parents were here to help or we would've missed a lot of stuff.
"Jack," Alex said soothingly, "Calm down. It's going to be ok, the house'll pass."
I shrugged, "I'm just scared Lex. Not only for today, but for everything. What if when we meet her, she hates me? Or what if I can't take care of her?"
He pulled me closer and kissed my temple, "She's going to love you Jack, you're like a giant kid. And remember, you're not alone. I'm going to be there every step of the way, I'm going to treat her like my own and you know that. You also have our families, and the guys too. We're going to be ok."
"I love you so fucking much," I whimpered, "Alex, we're going to have a family."
He smiled, "Yeah. We are."
"One question though," I contemplated, "What do we tell the fans about her? We can't keep her a secret forever."
Alex furrowed his eyebrows, "That's a good question. Considering 95% of them think we're joking when we say we're together..."
I shrugged, "Maybe they'll believe us when she moves in."
"Or when we get married," he added, smiling.
"Their's that too," I smiled back at him.
He ruffled his hair and chuckled. It's amazing how much of an effect he still has on me. My heart races every time he smiles. Which will probably result in a heart attack by the age of 60. But, whatever, it's worth it.
"We should start planning soon," he suggested, "Like, once things start settling down. I'm really excited, you know?"
I nodded, "Me too. I'd take you to Vegas and marry you at a drive through chapel but I don't think you'd go for that."
He smirked, "Why do you say that? How do you know I wouldn't go for it?"
I shrugged, "You just seem like the type that'd want a big ceremony."
