"Morning!" Evan greets me as I hop in his car on Monday morning. His voice was starting to grow on me. But his overall attitude would take me a while to get used to.
"Good morning to you too," I reply as I straighten my ponytail and take out my phone. Next thing I know, Evan has my phone and he's putting it in his pocket.
"Hey!" I yelp as I try to take it back.
"We need to seem like an actual couple, Amara. And to do that, we have to be engaged in conversation," he says as we pull up to the school. I roll my eyes and give him a fake smile, causing him to laugh.
"What?" I ask, my fake smile melting away and being replaced by a real one.
"Your fake smile is priceless," he says as we stop in a parking spot. I give him a questioning look and he pulls out his phone.
"What do you mean?" I ask him, watching as he pulls up Snapchat and turns the camera towards me.
"Do it again," he orders me and so I do. He takes a video as he busts a gut with laughter and he also catches my confused look that I give him.
"I don't get--" I was about to finish what I was saying until he showed me the video.
"Ha!" he looks at my disgusted face and continues to laugh. He opens the car door and gives me his arm as he continues to chuckle and I hand him his football bag. I almost toppled over as I tried to pass it on to him.
"Now I get it," I say as he posts it on his story and then turns his phone off.
"You should. It's hilarious to see," he says as we pass by a few people with their mouths wide open in shock.
"They're staring," I whisper through the side of my mouth and he plasters on a grin.
"I know. I always know," he says calmly and I watch as he waves to his friends and a wide-eyed Patricia. What does he mean by "I always know"?
"How many class periods do we have together?" I ask him and he holds up two fingers in response.
"We have Chemistry and AP Lit together," He replies and I grin happily. I had a good pun to dish out!
"Well, of course we have Chemistry," I joke and he cringes, adding on an eye roll as well. But he also laughs so I think it's all good.
"That was just awful," he smirks at me as I laugh.
"You're going to have to get used to it if we're supposed to be dating," I whisper as we come up to my first-period class.
"Well, just please tone it down a bit," he says with a genuine smile playing across his lips.
"Only if you tone down your cockiness," I challenge him and he raises an eyebrow, obviously taking up the challenge.
"You're on," he says as he sticks out his hand. I take his hand in mine and shake it, then holding on a little too long just to make it awkward.
"Man, you are so awkward," he says shaking his head and smiling.
"Why thank you, glad you've noticed," I say as he begins to walk away and I wave goodbye, blowing him a kiss just to make it cheesy. He blows a kiss in return and I burst into laughter as I walk into my Biology class.
"Ms. Williams, good to see your in good spirits," Mr. Hitaris snaps and I frown laugh as I take my seat next to Kayden. But I got less than a warm welcome from him.
"Evan?!" he yell-whispers at me as I open my notes and try to listen to Mr. Hitaris's next ridiculous lesson.
"Shh. I'm trying to focus here," I shush him and he growls.
"I'm your best friend, Amara. Best Friend. B-E-S-T! And that means you tell me everything," he explains to me and I roll my eyes.
"Oh really? Like the time you told me that you were the one who broke my Mom's car window? And plus, you're the one who left me to die yesterday," I glare at him as I speak and he opens his mouth like he was going to make a comeback but then he shuts up. I nod my head proudly and sit back in my lab chair.

"You have got to come to my football game tomorrow night," Evan suddenly says as I stare off into space. I continue to stare out the window, not noticing that he was talking to me. So I take a bite of my sandwich and continue to stare.
"Hello?" Evan asks, his face suddenly very close to mine. His blue eyes look over my face curiously and I raise my eyebrow at him. He has quite the interesting way of getting someone's attention.
"Yeah," I respond aimlessly, wondering why Kayden freaked out on me like he did in Biology.
"Amara?" Evan asks as I begin to zone out again. I watch as a bird flies straight into the window and I still continue to stare. And as you have realized, I am a hardcore zone-outer. I could do it for hours on end and not be disturbed by anyone. Until now.
"Yes?" I ask, a little disturbed that Evan was so close that his breath hit my nose. I look at him but he still doesn't move. I glance up at his ice blue eyes and they weren't so cold this time. I tilt my head confusedly and he smiles. His effervescent charming smile.
"I thought I had to kiss you to get your attention," he says as he bites into his breaded chicken sandwich.
"Oops. But don't try it. I will punch you in the face if you do without warning me," I warn him and he grins mischievously. I smile back and that's when I see Patricia glaring at me from the other side of the cafeteria.
"So, Amara, how long have you and my boy been dating?" Bennet suddenly asks me and I plaster on a fake smile, causing Evan to almost choke trying to hide his laughter. Everyone else at the lunch table suddenly looks to us as I speak.
"Only about a week secretly," I answer and Bennet smiles.
"Now, Evan, why would you want to hide the fact that you are dating a gorgeous girl like Amara?" Bennet challenges Evan and I can see that he kinda wants to be in the Alpha spot where Evan is right now.
"I wasn't. I just didn't want her to be suddenly bombarded with questions," he says as he suddenly wraps his arm around my shoulders from behind. I sit a little taller and then remember that it's supposed to look natural, so I relax.
"Bennet, I don't like how you're treating MY boy here. I can see you want his spot in this group. You wanna be the Alpha, don't you? Well, until that happens, have some respect," I scorch his ass with my comment and the rest of the boys' mouths fall open.
"Who says I have to listen to you?" Bennet challenges and I roll my eyes.
"Listening isn't an option, buddy. The only option you got now is obeying," I sizzle him to a crisp brown and the others all look at me suddenly differently.
"Who says I'm going to obey?" he challenges me yet again and I fake a yawn.
"I do. You will answer to me if you try that again. And all who have answered to me, ended up with a miserable year," I reply coldly and Bennet begins to back off.
"Now, I better not be hearing any of your disrespect while I'm near. And that's going to be a lot so I would suggest learning some damn manners," I add on and he shuts his mouth angrily. I look around the table as Bennet gets up to leave and all the other guys stare at me wide eyed.
"What?" I ask, dumbfounded, "Are you guys not used to being told no?"
"Damn girl!" Chance raises his eyebrow at me, amused and looked like suddenly attracted. I glance over at Evan and catch him looking at me funny.
"What?" I ask, truly confused as to why they were all looking at me this way.
"You should be feisty more often," Evan suddenly says and I roll my eyes.
"Don't get too ahead of yourself, bucko. I can scorch your ass just like I did to Bennet if you're not careful," I warn him and all the other boys go 'ooh!'
"Damn," Evan whispers as I laugh at all of the attention. And he continued to look at me.
