"I'm home!" I shout into the house and the twins come barreling through the room, instantly stopping at the sight of Evan.
"Who dis?" Trip asks with an adorably confused look on his tiny little face.
"It's obviously her boyfriend," Lily scolds Trip and he gives her a funky look.
"I thought Kayden was her boyfriend?" Trip wonders aloud and I hide a smile. I wish kid, I think to myself. Evan smiles down at me and then looks at the twins and waves.
"Hi, I'm Evan. And yes, I'm your sister's boyfriend. What are your names?" he asks them and Lily smiles grandly.
"I am Lily Diamond Williams. But you can call me Miss Williams," Lily says regally. Evan snickers and holds his hand out to shake with Lily's. Then he turns to Trip and grins widely.
"I'm Trip. And if you try hurting my sister, I will run you over with my toy dump truck," Trip says protectively, causing us all to laugh.
"Trip, be nice!" My Mom shouts from the kitchen as she rushes in with a huge smile. As soon as she walks in, I can feel all the gooey comments that are about to come out of her mouth.
"Mom, hold back on the comments. He's just dropping me off," I halt her and bites her lips to try and contain the comments that I knew she wanted to just blurt out all at once.
"Not anymore. He's staying for a while longer. Call your parents to let them know, son," my Dad announces himself and I curse in my head. So close to getting him in and out.
"Yes, sir," Evan says, and I began to see sweat actually bead on his upper lip. He was nervous! For once he wasn't the calm and cool tough guy. This was quite a sight. He slips away to call his parents and I walk into the kitchen to talk with my Mom.
"He should come to the reunion next weekend," she suddenly blurts and I almost choke on my own breath.
"Are you kidding?" I wheeze while trying to gain control of my coughing.
"No! Of course not. The rest of the family would want to meet him," My Mother says as she rushes into the living room where my Dad and Evan were now awkwardly sitting across from each other.
"Evan, I want to formally invite you to come with us to our family reunion next weekend. Sleeping over at the resort would be optional to you but if you would enjoy it, I think we would all be excited if you joined us," My Mom says graciously and I make a bunch of signals for him to say no. I wave my hands in the air, swipe my hand over my neck and all other things I can think of that mean no. But he just smirks and then nods happily.
"I would love to come! Amara, you never told me about this," he tries to throw me under the bus as he throws his arm around my shoulder and I barely hold in the urge to just throw it back off.
"Well, then it's a date! Oh! The family will be ecstatic to meet you!" My Mother says as she squeezes my Father's arm and he looks just about displeased as I am.
"I'm looking forward to it. But I have to get home now, my parent are waiting," he takes my hand and plants a kiss on it and then mouths 'I'll text you later' before he heads out the door and leaves me to deal with the aftermath of my parents.
"Why didn't you tell us you were dating such a charming boy?" my Mother bursts with grins and squeals.
"I want to shoot him," My Father grumbles and I laugh at their two very different opinions on Evan.
"Well, I'm exhausted. If you don't mind, I going to take a shower and then go to bed," I announce, kissing both of my parents on the cheek and then squeezing each of the twins into a hug before heading up the stairs to my bedroom.
As I head up the stairs, I release a breath I didn' realize I was holding. And then I reflect on what exactly just happened in that whirlwind of grins and grumbles.
And that's when it truly sets in.
Evan is going to meet my crazy insane wild family!
Oh, boy was he in for it.
