So I got this idea from GerithorDunedain (If you have not followed this writing genius then drop what you're doing and follow him right now) to give you guys some random unknown trivia about some of my books on here.
I hope you guys enjoy!
This first one if for my book In the Woodshop which was the first story I completed here on Wattpad. If you haven't read it yet I must warn you SPOILERS AHEAD
We good?
We good.
1. The story is based off a song.
This is actually something anyone who has read the story knows already. I first heard the song when the band released it as a sneak peak to their new album that would eventually be coming out. The story first began to take shape in my head after I listened to it a couple hundred times and memorized the lyrics.2. There was originally going to be more characters.
The story focuses exclusively on two characters, the protagonist and Wind. A few others are mentioned but no other names are given, however I had thought about writing in two teenage boys to be the protagonist's friends, and making the protagonist's father a main character. Seeing the direction I was headed with the story however, I decided that the protagonist having friends didn't fit the mood I was trying to set at all and I deemed the father too minor to include.3. The story behind the protagonist's name.
His name, which is Seth, is actually a nod to the protagonist created by the writer of the song In the Woodshop for his story Hours which goes along with the album of the same name. Hours really inspired me to write this story (along with the song) so I decided to name my character Seth as a tribute.4. The ending was WAY different.
In the original story: Wind (at this point in planning I didn't actually have a name for her yet) doesn't go with Seth to the Frozen Sea (at this time it wasn't frozen at all) Instead she remains behind at the woodshop while Seth goes alone to see what lies on the other side, hoping to find a better place for them to live. Seth discovers a place that will provide himself and Wind with everything they need. After spending several months in this new place, Seth returns over the sea only to find that years have gone by since he left. He returns to the woodshop only to find in torn down and abandoned, with a mysterious note left behind from Wind carved into the wood. Seth would find that everyone in his Community has also disappeared and that numerous graves have been set up, and he eventually finds Wind's grave. At this point I didn't know how to end the story and I eventually scrapped the idea, the ending we all know is what I ended up sticking with.5. Wind could talk.
Before I really developed her character, Wind was going to be a regular teenage girl who instead of having a flaw, simply saw things differently than anyone else. She was going to be the one to convince Seth that there was something over the sea and the one to realize that she was in love with him. However I didn't really like this version of her, so I thought of the idea of making her mute and expressing herself without words. And since the story was being told from Seth's POV it made more since for him to be the one who admitted that he was in love with her.6. It wasn't always winter.
I was going to include all four seasons but focus mainly on winter, but I liked the idea that with the absence of love, the world was always cold just like the hearts of those who lived in it.7. I thought of writing a sequel but immediately abandoned the idea.
If I had kept the original ending there was a chance that I would have written a sequel where Seth goes on a quest to figure out what happened during his absence, but since I changed the ending all ideas for a sequel vanished. So that's all I have for this one! Let me know what you think and stay tuned for more.
Alright I'm out
