"Ugh, fuck." Xavier mumbles walking downstairs. He probably has a hangover and I hope he doesn't remember anything from last night.

It's Monday which is my least favorite day of the week. I'm already dressed and ready to go for school. My bagel pops out of the toaster and I take it out. I open the fridge to get out cream cheese.

"What are you doing?" He asks watching every move I make.

"Eating a bagel?" I say obviously.

"No, why are you dressed?"

"For school." I say spreading the cream cheese on my bagel.

"Jessie, you can't go to school." He says grabbing a bottle of Advil.

"I'm not missing school." I say. I can't miss school. If I do then I probably won't even get into college and I'd have a bunch of stuff I'd need to make up like tests.

"Someone's out there trying to kill you."

I sigh and turn around. "I can't miss school though! I don't want to miss school. So you can't stop me."

Just as Xavier was about to say something, the door opens. I turn around to see Ben.

"Ben, tell Xavier that I can't miss a day of school." I say crossing my arms.

"Jessie, were trying to keep you safe as possible, are you sure you want to go to school?"

"Yes, I'm positive."

He sighs and looks at Xavier. "Do you mind being by her side everywhere she goes?"

"What?!" I say.

"I don't mind." Xavier says but I know he's lying through his teeth.

"I'm not a little kid, I can handle myself." I say defensively.

"We're trying to keep you safe Jessie. Don't make this hard." Ben says sternly.

I roll my eyes and walk outside with my backpack over my shoulder. I get into the passengers seat of Xavier's car and wait until he comes out.

He gets in but I don't look at him. I just stare out the window. There's a silence in the air for the whole car ride until we get to school.

I get out of the car trying to get away from Xavier but he runs up to my side. "Slow down Jessie."

I stop in my tracks and cross my arms. "Xavier you really don't need to walk around with me like a little kid who's lost. I can protect myself."

He turns around and rolls his eyes. "Jesus Jessie, stop being so damn difficult. Let's go."

I glare at him but I give up and follow him into the school.
