"Thank you, and you look really swell in your tux, I'm glad you swapped the red dress." I smiled at his profile while he drove us to a parking space. There were already tens of parked cars and filing students pushing past one another onto a large yacht. It looked big enough to hold us all without sinking so I guess I would be okay. "I can pay for my ticket." I said as we walked up to the man who I could only assume was our bouncer for the night. He accepted the money and handed us two tinted gold tickets with a hole punch. Travis didn't let me pay so I had money for the food on the boat, the music was loud and the ship would soon set sail. Dancing alongside Travis wasn't awkward it was funny though, I kept pointing at the weird positions the tips of his shoes would bend in, he helped me fix my dance moves also, ducking and standing like we were in the boxing ring. We didn't care, everyone was having fun and laughing until I felt a soft hand tap my shoulder.
"Elizabeth, meet Jamie!" Olivia smiled, showing me a girl about half her size. She was petite and adorable, her plum dress swayed to her knees and a golden band wrapped around her waist. Olivia seemed nervous but I hugged her date with ease.
"You two look fabulous!" I screeched, probably hurting people's ears in the process. Olivia looked amazing with her lime green dress to the floor with golden studs around the waist, and a golden bow as her one-shoulder strap.
"Thanks" they said in unison. They began girating to the music as I got back to my own professional dancing with Travis. It started to get hot too, and a little uncomfortable as many students started to get pact together to dance as an awkward huddle. Don't get me wrong the dance was great, but right now I needed air.
"I'll be right back," I told Travis who nodded, I left and looked back to see him dancing with that crop-haired blond chick who originally asked him to the dance. He looked forced but gradually started to enjoy it. Walking out of the yacht I couldn't go home because we were basically in the middle of the water, so I walked up some stairs to a section outside that was quiet and serene. The cool air breezed past my curls and onto my face. I didn't even mind the ocean water which smelled distinctly like fish. I stayed there for a good five minutes before deciding to go back downstairs, I ran smack into Carter as I did so. He smiled brighter than usual and looked me over.
"I was wondering if it was you, I didn't want to tap on the wrong girl's shoulder." he snickered.
"Hey." I said half heartedly. Looking into his eyes, the deep blue screamed sorry but even that didn't make me flinch or want him. He had cheated on Julie, who said he wouldn't do the same to me.
"You look spectacular tonight. You do everyday but tonight is an exception." he breathed down into my ear, playing with my hand by my side. My breath caught in my throat as his tickled the side of my neck, he drew back, looking me in the eye.
"I knew you liked it and I was looking at your bow when I saw you get out of Travis' car..." he paused stuffing a hand in his pocket before pulling out the lovely pearl necklace from his car. "I ran back to my car when I saw you, I thought you might want it because you said it was pretty and girls like pretty things... so yeah." he struggled for his words. I lifted my eyebrows and cocked my head to the side, grinning just enough so my teeth couldn't be seen. "Do you want this necklace, Lizzy?" he said my nickname softly, I couldn't refuse.
"Can you put it on?" I asked, biting my lip, he looked down at them, biting his own before meeting my eyes then nodding. Quickly shaking off my growingly weakening knees I turned and lifted my hair as he slipped the necklace around my neck. He clasped the back, warm hands brushing the baby hairs aside as he stood back so I could face him.
"Does it look nice?" I asked, looking down. his fingers cupped my chin quickly, drawing my face up to his.
"I can't see it properly if you put your head down." he murmured looking at my lips again.
What's wrong with him?
He leaned forward gently, the inviting smell of warm dark chocolate took over the once dead fish odor. He moistened his full sets before it met mine.
No, it wasn't like those break away kisses where one feels shy and scared about doing something wrong. It was passionate, one of those kisses where if you broke away you might die. I ran my hand against his suit feeling the smooth sleek fabric beneath my finger tips. I exhaled sharply before gripping his face and pulling his face closer. He chuckled darkly, smiling under our kiss.
"Breathe." he whispered, smirking with a glint in his blue eyes. I looked up at him and smiled, gnawing on my own lip as he said so. I took his advice, settling my heart rate to a once again normal pace. He looked behind me, out at the ocean again.
"It smells horrible in here, let's go back inside." he said, scrunching his nose at the horrid smell. I felt saddened by the thought of leaving the serenity but I didn't mind a dance with Carter too.
