We headed back to the room filled with our classmates. Carter led the way, holding my hand as he guided through the throng of dancing teenagers that were now shouting the lyrics to the new song. I felt a strong arm curl around my waist from behind.
"I really don't think we can be friends anymore," a low voice purred against my ear, I slid my hand from Carter as I spun to approach the person. Jayden. "Not with you dressed like that." he continued, he was lucky I wasn't actually going to punch him.
"I hate you." I smiled, looking at Carter who looked at me with a 'I'll give you some time' look, I nodded and gave a smile before seeing him stalk off to Julie who was with her friends, she gave me the stink eye before turning up her nose at me. She was dressed in a light blue dress that had frills, it looked pretty but not something I'd ever see myself wearing. Jayden distracted me, tugging on my hand to get me to dance. Swaying, laughing, and singing along took up most of my attention during the song but I felt an interrupting presence when a slow paced melody filled my ears.
"Can I have this dance?" I heard Travis say from behind me. Jayden focused on the guy behind me, seeing as he asked nicely Jayden grunted and let go of my hand disappointingly. I gave a wide smile when Travis stepped into view, giving a dramatic bow before clutching my waist. Letting out a relieving sigh, I rested my head against his shoulder and twirled with Travis as my lead. The music filled my ears with sweet tunes, I could relax and clear my head. The only thing was, I couldn't get Carter's kiss to leave my memory.

The boat pulled up to the dock, everyone looked tired but there was still an after party to attend, only I wasn't going.
"But you've got to go, Beautiful." Travis cooed in a gentle voice, "that's where the action starts." I shook my head firmly. I needed time to breathe.
"Leave the girl alone." I heard a strong voice say from behind me. Obviously Carter, and with the events of tonight I didn't want to look back, especially when clacking heels sounded besided him.
"I think we should go." a sharp, rude, female voice chimed in. I saw Olivia and her date walking to their car. I waved to them, watching as they both jumped into her date's car and speed off. I looked to Travis with pleading eyes, but he only pleaded back.
We came to a stop at his car. Julie had almost kept walking but Carter stopped beside us.
"I'll take her home, you and Julie can go to the party." He said kindly, looking at Travis who looked to Julie, who smiled devilishly.
"Yeah! I love that idea." she said walking up to Travis and squeezing his leg.
Slut. He looked at me nervously but I nodded my head , really wanting to go home. If Carter was my ride, so be it. Travis shook his head.
"Nevermind, besides, it wouldn't be a party without you." he smiled brilliantly, ignoring Julie as he brushed past her to my side. He hooked a strong arm over my shoulder making me a lot warmer in the cold night.
Gosh he was sweet.
"You go, I really want you to!" I lied, pulling away from him while I playfully pushed him to his car. I actually wanted to talk to Carter about what happened, so him being my ride was starting to lighten my mood, but looking over to Carter told me otherwise. Ignoring Carter's deep process thought, I continued with Travis who protested at first, but gave in when I whispered I'd tell Carter about the dress.
"Fine, you win!" He caved, lifting a leg inyo his car. Julie had ran around to the passenger side and got in, reapplying her makeup. "But im not a sore loser, beautiful, and at least I still get a prize." he smirked, I rolled my eyes.
"Like wh-" he interrupted me with a quick kiss on the cheek, hopping into the car.
"Goodnight! You can beat me up at school." he laughed, tires screeching away.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I whipped around and started off to his car, he seemed awkward. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, and shuffling slowly, all while not saying a thing.
Carter's normally cozy plush seats were now reeking of perfume. Julie. I also saw a bra on the floor of the car. More Julie. And I really didn't want to find other clues of her being in here, I avoided looking around too much, focusing on the first raindrop that had hit the window as Carter got in to the car. He immediately recognized her undergarments lying around.
"She changed in here...last minute." he said embarrassed as he tossed it to the back, I said nothing as we pulled off from the lot. Making the silent drive longer than it had to be, the very first stoplight outside of the dance parking lot caught us.
"Liz." he said softly, "I know I shouldn't have kissed you, I am with Julie but I still want to be friends with you. Maybe we can start off again, the way we were." he paused, looking to me for answers. I gave a small smile in return. I knew I was going to regret this drive home.
