"What the hell are you talking about?" I yelled angrily into the phone, Julie knew how to get to me, if Carter had spoken to me it was because he started the conversation. Now she is telling me to back off the closest friend I have at Underwood.

"Trust me little lizzy, you don't want to get caught up with Carter," she hissed, "him and I have done stuff you can never compete with. He will always have an arm and a leg out for me, so even if you got together-"

"Got together! I just met him!" I shouted, looking around for my mother who was obviously at work. I decided to make a small lunch before changing into more comfortable clothes, listening to Julie rant about her and Carter. "I know about you and Carter's arguement" I snickered, shutting her up.

"What did he tell you?" she said carefully, her breathing became shallow, she didn't expect a threat from me so I played on it.

"Don't worry about what he did tell me. Worry about how he trusts me now, and not you." I whispered into the phone, her spat with Carter was probably about the stupid dance or maybe him flirting with another girl. She hung up without a word, making me laugh deviously. I walked up to my room with a bowl of potato chips, flopping onto my bed to scroll through Facebook when a message came in.

TravD: Hey beautiful.

Lizzyurgurl: i have a name.

TravD: I know, do you want me to change it? I have a list of other ones.

Lizzyurgurl: Really? How about Lizzy, is that one on the list.

TravD: How about, will you go to the dance with me?

I didn't want to answer his question, I had been avoiding it since this morning. I even passed it up with Jayden, my bestfriend for years. I wanted Carter to ask me, but since him and Julie were going I let it slip out of my mind. Julie's right, I need to step away from her guy.

Lizzyurgurl: I think I like that name.

The next day was normal, I didn't see disappearing girl. Carter spoke to me and even swung his arm over my shoulder, Julie seethed and watched me from across the hall, plus she didn't join us at lunch. Travis still called me beautiful and my coach evaluated my swim skills and told me I was good to compete. It was the day after, the last day before break that had me twisting and turning.

"I heard you're going to the dance with Travis" Olivia smiled, knocking me in the arm.

"Yeah, it's not that big of a deal." I smiled back, walking down the hall to leave school.

"We should go shopping today for your dress! I can pick you up and we could have fun, come on! It's Friday the dance is next week!" she pressed, making me give into her jollyness.

"So I'm guessing your coming, with who?" I asked, pushing past the hundreds of kids shoving to leave school and catch their buses.

"You'll see when you get there." she teased, grabbing my phone and typing in her number, "I'll be ready around six, giving you three hours and thirty minutes to get ready!" she ran off to her bus, making me shake my head as I marched to Carter who had his arms crossed.

"Someone's a little happy." he joked, motioning to Olivia who waved at us through her bus window. We waved back as her bus pulled away from Underwood.

"She wants to go shopping," I rolled my eyes, "for the winter dance. Gosh! Why do guys have it so easy, a tux and they're done!" I fussed, beginning to walk over to my bike that was chained up. He followed helping me tug off the rest of the silver metal. I swung a leg over but he positioned himself in front of the front wheel, blocking me from pedaling home.

"Well I hope those plans weren't for today, because I really wanted to take you somewhere."

-------------------------------------------------------------------

I slid out of the car when it came to a stop on the green turf. The soft grass greeted my shoes and my skirt blew slightly in the wind. Carter had hopped out of his car seat too, except he removed his blazer and kept a plain white T on with his trousers. He said nothing walking ahead to the lake that reflected the many trees around it. I scrunched up my face at the stench of the water but thought the place was serene enough to be a makeout spot. I jogged up beside him, smiling up at him.

"A lake?" I asked, looking around even more, the water was crisp but probably cold because of the upcoming winter days. The trees were almost bare but it was Carter who made this place seem frightening instead of peaceful. He looked dark, and tough, his guard was up in all four corners and I most likely wouldn't get it down unless I tried. I etched closer to the water, pulling my blazer off exposing my white tank, I looked back at Carter who just like most guys watched me carefully. His cheeks deepened to a shade of crimson that only made me believe he was embarrassed. I smiled playfully and beckoned him to come closer, but he shook his head and ruffled his tousled hair. I looked back out at the lake and removed my tank leaving me in my bra and skirt.

Don't worry, it's just like a bathing suit,  you're not getting naked.

I coaxed myself to be a little more flirtatious,  jogging back to him and pulling his hand. "Just a toe." I pleaded, "one toe in the water and that's all I ask."

"Then why are you getting undressed? " he mocked, fidgeting with my bra strap and raising an eyebrow. My face turned red so I ducked my head, hearing his irritatingly beautiful laugh. He unbuttoned his trousers,  dropping them to the floor as he lifted his shirt over his head exposing his chisled abs and chest. I bit my lip and looked back at the water. I tugged off my own bottoms along with those itchy socks and shoes, running along the grass and diving into the water. As I came up for air I looked back to the edge.

"it's deep!" I screamed excitedly, "can you swim?" he nodded, looking past me and over to a small tree near the other side of the lake. "Then come on in! It's not dirty." I said scooping up water in my hands and showing him.  He smiled, walking forward to the edge. I swam to him, hopping out of the water.

"you okay?" I asked steadily, wiping off my face, he ignored my question and instead wrapping his hands around me and dragging me too his warm body.

"is the water cold?" he whispered, smiling since I was caught off guard. He picked me up in one swift motion and threw me into the water making me yelp. I heard him splash inside next to me, both of us returning up for air soon enough.

"you didn't even give me time to answer!" I giggled, throwing my hands in the air. He kicked over to me, grinning as he did so. "Good swimmers don't need warnings." he joked. I smiled back at him as I swam in repeated circles. He caught me in one of my laps and pulled us closer my chin quivering with not just the cold but the thought of being close to him.

"Thanks for bringing me here." I smiled shakily,  looking away from his eyes, he ducked his head towards where my gaze went trying to keep contact. "Me and Julie aren't together, Lizzy." he said quietly. I furrowed my eyebrows, a little confused.

"Travis mentioned that you guys have some kind of bond or past or something." I recited to him. He didn't say anything about that but began to swim around with me.

"I don't want to get into something that I can't commit to." he said gently, staring at me over the water, I nodded and parted the liquid to swim towards him, splashing the water in his face. He fell under after losing his concentration but burst back out for air.

"What the hell?" he laughed.

I squinted at him, "that was for throwing me in."
