I woke early that morning. Teresita was still sleeping. I was hungry, so I got dressed and went downstairs. The hall was empty. I guess it was too early for breakfast. I decided to wander around the castle. I knew I would get lost, but so what. I walked down a flight of stairs, the one that lead back down to the Hufflepuff common room. I noticed some doors along that corridor on my way up. Most of the rooms were locked, but some opened to reveal classrooms and broom closet. I tripped over my shoe lace and fell against the wall. I heard a laugh and turned round expecting to see someone. There was no one there. I looked at the painting that I fell against. It was a bowl of fruit. I was so hungry, I kinda sadly put my hand up to the pear. It let out a laugh. I was so shocked I stumbled backwards. I reached my hand out again. The pear laughed again, but this time I kept my hand there. I began tickling it, and suddenly it turned into a green door-nob. I turned it and a doorway opened up. I stepped though and the smell of food hit me, like a cruel reminder of how hungry I was. I looked at my surroundings. I was in a kitchen, and all around me little creatures worked busily. Some were cooking and some were cleaning. When they saw me they rushed over and held out trays of food. I took some, thanked them and sat down. They all went back to work, but one stayed and watched me eat. He looked fascinated.
"Hi" I said trying to be polite.
"Hello, Mistress"
"Please, call me Calandra". A smile spred across his face.
" Ok"
"I don't mean to be rude," I said the next bit in a whisper " What is... every one here?"
"Why a house elf of course" he laughed.
"Sorry, I'm a .."
"Muggle-born?". He covered his mouth "Sorry, I did not mean to interrupt. Sooky have interrupting problem. Sooky get in trouble with other elfs for it. Sooky bad." And he hit his head gently, like how you would gently tap a dog on the nose, if he was miss behaving.
"No, no, Sooky is good" I say.
" Thank you, Mi..... Calandra". Suddenly the door burst open. I thought it was a professor and I would get in trouble, but it was Ren.
"Oh hi, Calandra".
"Hi". The elves started shoving food in front of him.
"Whoa, I'll never starve down here". All the house elves laughed. " I see you got an early breakfast"
"How did you find this place?"
"Question is, how did you"
"I asked you first"
"Did you?" He smirked
"Don't be a smartass"
"Ok, ok, I.... followed you"
"What? Why?". He shrugged
"I was bored"
"So you decided to stalk me?"
"Not stalk, follow"
"Ok, sure". He sat down across from me and began to eat his food.
"What do you think they'll do about your house situation"? He asked, breaking the silence. I shrugged. "I heard the sorting hat couldn't decide between Hufflepuff and Gryffindor". I nod. "You should chose Gryffindor. That where the cool people go" he said in a mock vain voice. I laugh.
"Really? How come you where put there so?". He put his had to his chest and pretended he was hurt. Suddenly The door burst open again. It was Rose.
"Well this looks cosy" she said as she sat down next to me. Once again, the house elves shoved food in front of her. She took some and thanked them.
"So, what are you two doing down here to together"
"We're on a date" said Ren. I hit him.
"As if any girl would like you" laughed Rose. We all laughed.
"So, how did you find this place?" I asked.
"I asked a house elf if they had seen you, and he brought me down here." She answered.
"This is a nice place to have breakfast. If only Teresita was here." Said Ren.
"We should eat here every morning" says Rose.
"We could ask one of the house elves to get Teresita" I suggest
"Yeah" they agree. So that's what we did.
"How did you guys find this place" asked Teresita.
"I found it, Ren was following me and Rose was led here by a house elf." I answer.
"Cool". We spend the morning talking and laughing and joking. We eventually leave to get our schedules. I find Professor McGonagal. She decided that we'll ask the sorting hat one more time, and if that doesn't work, she has a plan. She takes me up to her office. I sit on a stool while she gets the hat. Once again, the hat is placed on my head and falls over my eye.
"Hmm back again are we Walsh?" Says the hat "Like I said last time I don't know"
"Why? Can't you chose one?" I plead
"Fine.. Huffledor. I mean... Gryffinpuff.... I mean.... I don't know!" At least it didn't cry this time. The hat was taken off my head by Professor McGonagal.
"Well.. we'll just have to go with the plan. I have decided that you will be in both Hufflepuff and Gryffindor, for the rest of the school year. Then you will be
Sorted again at the end of the school year."
"But Professor, what dormitory will I stay in?"
"Minor detail, my child. You can chose. Switch through out the year if you want"
"I think I'll stay in Hufflepuff".
"Ok. Now here's your schedule. As you can see every second class you are with Hufflepuff and the rest Gryffindor."
"Ok". I leave her office and look at my schedule. My first class is with Gryffindor and Slytherin and it's defence against the dark arts. I began to make my way to class.
