It was the middle of the night, when I woke up. Something was lying on my chest and swatting my nose. I sat up and tried to make out my surroundings in the dark. I saw what woke me up. It was Simba.
"What do you want Simba? It better be important if you woke me up this early." I whisper to Simba so I don't wake everyone else. Simba looked at me with big round eyes and meowed. He jumped off my lap and started trying to lead me somewhere. When a cat wakes you up in the middle of the night to take you somewhere, I guess the only logical thing to do is follow it. (Note I was being sarcastic). But I put on my shoes anyway and followed my feline friend. I was so nervous that I was going to be caught out of bed after hours and every noise I heard made me jump. Simba was leading me outside ( good thing I brought a jumper). He was heading towards the edge of the forest. I hoped it would end there, but he kept going. The sound to be heard as I entered the forest was the eerie chirps and hoots of the animals lurking in the forest. Luckily he didn't go too far in to the forest. I looked at what was laying on the ground. It was still breathing, but badly injured. It was winged horse. It's wings were damaged and it looked like it had been bitten by a wild animal on its side. I bent down next to it and tried to sooth it. I didn't know what to do, then suddenly an idea came to me. I put my jumper over the horse and told Simba to stay with it. Simba curled up beside the horse and I went to get Professor Hagrid. I knew I would be trouble for being out of bed after hours, but my priority was saving the beautiful creature. I knocked on the door of Professor Hagrid's hut. The light came on and the barking of a dog could be heard from inside. The door opened and massive dog jumped out on top of me. He wasn't attacking me though. He was licking me and wagging his tail.
"Get off her, Fang!" Commanded Hagrid, and the dog walked to his side.
"What are ya doin outta bed? Yere not supposed to be out after hours"
"No time to explain sir. There's an injured winged horse in the forest. Looks like it was attacked" I say overwhelmed, because everything that happened just sort of hit me all of sudden.
"Show me" is all he replied. I guided him through the forest to place where Simba had led me. When Simba saw me he got up and wove himself through my legs. He was delighted I was back. Hagrid quickly went over to the winged horse and began to sooth it.
"It's too weak to move. You stay with it while I get Professor McGonagal. She knows some healing spells" he orders. I've never seen him so serious. I kneel next to the beautiful creature as Professor Hagrid quickly runs of to the castle. I mutter soothing words to the horse, telling it hold on. It's very weak and I hope Professor Hagrid is back on time. Simba begins to look distressed by the poor injured horse. Simba begins to meow at me. I don't know what he wants, but then he trots over to a tree and scrapes his claw against it. When he stands back, there's a word carved on to the tree. 'Vulnera Sanentur ' was the word.
"What do you want me to do, Simba? Is it a spell?". I say. He nods.
"For what?". I ask. He looks at the winged horse and then at me, then at the horse again. I suddenly understood.
"It's a healing spell isn't it?" I ask. He nods." Well I can't do it. I never did it before. What if it goes wrong?". Simba looks at me with his big round eyes, pleading me to try. I suddenly feel confident and whip out my wand and begin to repeat the words over and over again. The blood around the wound on the horse began to flow back into the wound. As blood began to clear, I could see the pure white hair of the horse. Soon the wound was completely cleared up and only a faint line was left where the wound had been. I was shocked... no, I was flabbergasted at what I had been able to do. The winged horse was still a bit tired, so it lay on the ground, as I spoke to it softly. Then suddenly, something occurred to me.
"Simba, how did you know I would be able to do that spell? How do you even know that spell? I know your a smart cat, but that was something else." Simba looks up at me, gives me a mischievous smirk and curls up beside me and began to nap. This is definitely a magical cat, but even for a magical cat, that was pretty shocking. A while later I heard footsteps and voices getting nearer.
"It's over 'ere, Ma am" said Hagrids booming voice. Then I was able to see them. Hagrid stopped in footsteps and looked at the winged horse in disbelief.
"W...where's da wound?".
"I... I, um.. cleared it up with a spell. I know I should have waited, but it was dying." I answer.
"It late Miss Walsh. I shall question you in the morning, but for you better get back to bed." I nod and silently make my way back to the castle with Simba at my side. The winged horse's wings were still damaged so Hagrid was probably going to look after it. It was hard to get back to sleep. I watched Simba sleeping at the end of my bed. He was one weird cat.
