I’ll admit it; I have no fashion sense what so ever. So when I was done with my homework around nine o’clock I had to call the only girl I knew would help me. “Hello,” Kim answered the phone.
“Hey Kim, it’s Case.”
“Oh, hey. What’s up?”
“I need your help. Can you come over?”
“Sure, I’m coming to the party anyway. I’ll be there in five minutes,” she said and hung up before I could even reply. I only had time to clean up the clothes thrown on my bedroom floor before the doorbell rang. I ran down and Kim walked right in and said, “You’re not wearing that to the party.” She was referring to the clothes I had on from school so I just shook my head and showed her to my room. She didn’t even say anything to me until she had gone through every piece of fabric in my closet. “You really need to go shopping every now and then,” she said as she picked up a shirt I’d had since the eighth grade. “You should really throw some clothes out too. You’re gonna have to settle for an outfit because you don’t have anything a normal teenager would wear to a party, much less out anywhere else.”
“So help me,” I said desperately. “I have to look good tonight. Make those guys wish they were nicer to me.”
“Okay,” she sighed taking something out of a bag I didn’t even see her bring in. She pulled out two dresses that to me were skimpy, but compared to what everyone else would be wearing they were modest. “I thought we’d have this problem so I brought some extra dresses from my older sister that she said you could have.” One of the dresses was black with silver glitter that would come to mid-thigh and had very thin straps, while the other was the exact same only blue. They weren’t anything I’d ever wear but I’d make an exception tonight. She held them up and then threw the blue one at me ordering me to go change.
By the time we were both done the party had started and I couldn’t even recognize myself. Kim had really out done herself. She had turned me into a gorgeous girl that I’d never been able to see in the mirror before. My dark brown hair flowed down my shoulders in soft curls and my make-up was perfect. Kim looked at me and said, “Girl I wasted time on myself. Your brother’s gonna be so caught up in keeping guys away from you that he’s not even gonna notice me.” Now that was definitely a lie to make me feel better since she looked amazing herself. As we walked down the stairs all of the guys turned to look at her in her simple black dress, so I knew the comment was just for my benefit. As soon as we reached the bottom my brother was there taking her hand and leading her away to get a drink.
“I’ve been waiting on you for an hour. Can we finally go to the party,” I heard Traeh say as he walked up next to me.
“Sorry,” I laughed, “I just thought I’d get dressed up all nice.” He nodded in appreciation and led me in the opposite direction that Kim and Eric had gone, towards the dance floor instead of the kitchen. When we got to the floor there was no hesitation to start dancing like maniacs. Traeh made me perfectly comfortable even though I had no dance skills. He made sure he always did a move that was worse than mine so no one would notice me.
