“Well, Cassandra,” she said pleasantly as though she hadn’t just been calling me a slut, “how are you darling?”

She reached her hand out to touch my stitched-up cheek, but I smacked it away. “I’ve been spreading my legs and having sex with everyone in town mother. What about you? Done anything atrocious lately? How about sleeping with another business partner,” I whispered so no one else would hear me. She had blamed the naked colleague on me, but since I knew it wasn’t me, it had to have been her that was sleeping with him. I had taken the blame, not wanting my family to fall apart, but I wasn’t taking anymore.

“Do not talk to me like that,” she said gathering herself. “I’m still your mother and you will give me some respect.”

“What respect,” I spat. “You lost all of my respect the moment I realized what you had been doing. When I realized you would risk this family for a little fun that was the end of my respect for you.”

“What are you talking about Case,” my father asked from behind me.

“Do you remember that man about two years ago that mom supposedly caught me having sex with?”

“Yes,” he said walking up to me.

“Mom didn’t catch me dad, I’m a virgin. I caught mom having sex with him. I didn’t tell you because I thought I was saving our family, but I just realized that she’s never been a part of this family. You deserve my protection, but she doesn’t which is why you had to find out. She doesn’t deserve you either. Please believe me dad,” I begged.

“You little brat,” my mom screamed and went to slap me, but my dad caught her hand.

“Don’t you touch my daughter,” he said sounding so demanding it scared even me who he was trying to protect. “You came here to get me to sign divorce papers? Well here’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to go to my attorney tomorrow and make sure that once we are divorced, you get nothing and your half of the business is given to someone that deserves it. Now get out of my house,” he said throwing her arm down. She looked shocked to say the least as she stormed out of the house, slamming the door behind her. My dad walked away to his room, not sparing me a second glance.

I knew he was mad at me, and he had every right to be. I’d kept this huge secret from him, one that he probably thought made him look like a fool. Only Aiden and my brother had known it wasn’t really me sleeping with the business men in the community and they had both agreed with my decision of keeping it from dad. Everyone in the room was quiet. I hung my head low in shame, and no one dared say a word. Aiden walked up behind me, placed his hand on my back and said, “You need to rest Bunny,” before leading me up the stairs and to my bedroom.

“I need to talk to Traeh,” I whispered to Aiden as he took off my shoes so I could get into bed.

“I’ll get him,” was all he said before he walked out the door.
