"I see that you're becoming nice to them." I mumbled softly as I kicked a stone along the way. Taehyung look at me in confusion. "You know, Irene and Hoseok?" I added.
"Oh right. Just thought that it was all in the past now and I think I've moved on so there's no point in holding grudges." He shrugged.
We are walking in the streets with our hands intertwined, enjoying just the presence of one another. I slightly nodded in agreement to his statement.
"I thought, if I'm ever gonna see them again, I would never accept them and be rude. But turns out, I'm the one who's warming up to them."
"I'm glad you're friends with Hoseok again." But not with Irene.
"Yeah." He whispered. "Thank you."
I face him in confusion. "What are you thanking me for?"
"Thank you for making me forget about it all. For giving love and life to me again. It was you who made it all possible for getting over it."
"I didn't do anything." I shook my head still confused.
"You didn't do anything. You just happened." He said and cupped my face with his hands then leaning over to capture my lips.
After the kiss, we stared lovingly into each other's eyes then continued with our walk home.
+++
Weeks have passed and Taehyung has become friendlier towards the couple. By means of friendly, Hoseok being able to hang out with his bestfriends again and Irene being extremely close and sweet to him.
In those weeks, I noticed Irene has been going frequently to the cafe and sit with Taehyung, as the brunette always waits for me. And I have also observed how Irene and Hoseok seemed distant with each other and that the girl looks like she was avoiding his boyfriend. Not that I want to barge into their life problems but it has been affecting us. Me.
Like right at this moment, Taehyung and Irene is sitting together at 'our table', talking animatedly. I just stared at them behind the cashier table, not noticing a customer was standing in front of me.
"Um excuse me, if you're done staring at whatever you were staring, can I have my order now?" The guy said, he looked annoyed.
"Oh sorry sir, what's your order?" I snapped from my daze and continue with my work.
"Get your guy, man" I heard Jimin whispered beside me as he was preparing the drinks.
I didn't say anything and just ignored the heavy feeling, not letting myself be distracted again in my work.
I just kept being like that until my shift was over. Irene had already left awhile ago and Tae saw me getting out from the counter wearing different clothes so he got the cue that I'm leaving. He came by my side and carried my backpack as usual (to which we argued in the past because I said I can manage to carry my own things, but he still insists) and took my hand.
We walk home in silence, just feeling the breeze of the cold night wind. Noticing that I don't have any intention in talking, he initiated to talk.
"How was your day bunny?" He asks.
"It's okay"
"Did you have fun in your work?"
"Not really"
"How are the customers?"
"They're alright."
"How's everyone? Jimin, Jin? Jisoo?"
"They're nice"
"Now that I've notice it, all of you working there have names that starts with letter J." He grinned at his discovery.
I just hummed in response. Usually I would also be amazed by the realization, but I'm not in the mood today. I just feel down.
"Kook.."
I turn my head to him and raised my eyebrows. "Hm?"
"Why are you so quiet? Won't you even ask how was my day?" Taehyung whined.
Why would I ask if I already saw your day was well spent with Irene, I thought but just kept quiet about it and stared ahead.
We didn't notice at first that we already arrive at my dorm. So I quickly get my bag from him but he didn't let go.
"Hyung?"
"Tell me what's wrong." He mumbled, his face now concerned.
"Nothing's wrong, I'm just tired." I tugged my bag again, but he still didn't let go.
"I'm not leaving until you tell me what's wrong."
"Hyung please?" I pouted and look at him with puppy dog eyes. He seemed to be lost in it as he loosened the grip to my bag.
"Thank you hyung. Have a good night." I pecked his cheek and started to go inside the house but he stopped me.
"Nuh uh. I'm staying for the night." He also walk towards the door.
"Who invited you?"
"I'm inviting myself. I told you, I'm not leaving unless you tell me what's wrong."
"You know I'm tired to argue about this right now but the idea of you staying for the night would be perfect." I somehow find myself smiling.
That night, after dinner and washing up, we settled in bed and cuddled. Taehyung was humming a song like every time we cuddle at night to sleep. This time it was a song called 'Butterfly' and his voice is like a lullaby. I feel myself drift into dreamland and into a peaceful sleep.
I felt a vibration of a phone but I was too sleepy to acknowledge it. Taehyung slowly shuffled beside me and answered in a whisper, not wanting to wake me up.
"Hello? Irene?"
"..."
"What's wrong?"
"..."
"Where are you?"
"..."
"It's okay, Jungkook's already sleeping. I'll be there in 10."
He hung up and kissed me on the forehead before quickly walking out the door. I didn't even have time to ask him where he's going.
At that moment, a tear fell from eye that was still close. At that moment, a new fear is slowly settling in my chest.
He said he'd never leave...
