When the past calls,
let it go to voicemail.
It has nothing new to say.

__________

Sometimes I wish that I was a heavy sleeper, maybe I'd be able to have more rest if the littlest sounds didn't manage to wake me up. Even though the sound that I'm currently hearing is more on the louder side, I'd still be be asleep because my resting body would be able to block it all out.

But to my dismay, the extremely loud banging on my door woke me in less than three seconds. Why can't whoever it is that thinks it's okay to demand my attention at almost five o'clock in the morning, just drop dead already.

They've been going at it for a good five minutes now and I'm wondering if they're knuckles are bleeding by now. Coco keeps barking like crazy and I know none of the noise is going to stop until I acknowledge it. Finally accepting that this ignorant person isn't going to leave my door, I get up from my incredibly soft bed, stretch, and then proceed down the stairs to the front door. Once I'm there I look through the peephole and all I can see is black. Oh so they've been covering it up this whole time. Who the hell is this?

Opening the door, I wish I would've just stayed in my bed because this person wasn't worth the energy walking all the way down here.

"Baby."

His breath reeked of alcohol and cigarettes and his hair was out of its usually neat braids and was now in the form of a mini fro. The clothes that he was wearing were baggy and wrinkled. His usual glowing brown skin had lost its glow, now it was dull and the tremendous amount of bags under his eyes didn't make anything better. Needless to say, Josh looked like he had been living on a corner for quite some time now.

I stared blankly at him trying to figure out why his sorry ass was standing in my door way.

"You're not happy to see me?"

I started laughing obnoxiously as I looked at him as if he had grown three heads.

"Happy to see you? Hell nah. Glad to see life clearly beating yo ass? Yes." I come down from my laughter as I wipe away my imaginary tears. After there was no reply, I continued.

"So where you staying now huh? With one of yo hoes or in a box?"

His change in facial expression showed that I had hit a nerve. I don't give not one fuck though, karma's a bitch boo.

When there was no reply once again, I decided that it was time for me to get back to my lovely bed.

"Now if you'll excuse me, well needed sleep is calling my name, dumb ass nigga." I begin to close the door but his hand stops me from doing so. Oh come on just give up already.

"Venus I know I hurt you and I realized that I was a complete dickhead in the way that I treated you. After what went down, you left with my heart, baby."

I scoffed while rolling my eyes and looking  down at my imaginary watch.

"A nigga ain't been right ever since and having a bunch a meaningless sex wasn't worth losing the best thing that ever happened to me. I just need you back Ven. I can't live without you anymore. Please."
