Knock knock.

I knocked on the Gilberts door twice before it was sprung open and look who came to view.

"Hello Derek, this is my mom. Mom, this is Derek Gilbert"
I said, taking charge of the introductions.

"I'm Joanna, Joanna Wesley. Nice to meet you Mr Gilbert." Mom said, introducing herself further.

"Pleasure's all mine Mrs Wesley. And please, do call me Derek. Mr Gilbert sounds too formal."

"Only if you'd call me Joanna"

"It's settled then, Joanna" Derek said flashing what any lady would call a killer smile. Even my mom cause I could see her blushing.

We were in the living room and I coughed as soon as I saw my mom blushing.

They realised my presence and Nina's absence.

"Excuse me, I'll get my daughter, Nina down now." he said and left.

"No problem, Derek" mom said.

I looked at mom in scrutiny

"Is there anything you wanna tell me?" I asked

"Me? Nothing. Why?"

"I don't know, you tell me cause I see you looking like you're an high school girl who's got a crush!" I said trying to not raise my voice.

She wanted to speak but got interrupted by the Gilberts presence.

"And here's my beautiful little girl, Nina!"

"Daaaad, I'm 18, you should stop calling me a little girl like I'm 6."

"Even if you're married, you'll still be my very own little girl." Derek said and played with her cheeks.

"You just won't stop huh" she said and laughed a bit.

"Good evening Mrs Wesley, It's nice to finally meet you."

"C'mon Nina, call me Joanna."

"Alright then, Joanna"

We all laugh and then Derek opens up the cookies I gave to him at the doorstep.

"Cookies!" Nina exclaimed.

"Yes, they're. You don't like them?" I asked with a weird expression on my face.

"Of course I don't"

I was shocked

"Who doesn't like cookies? I freaking do"

"Nina doesn't like Cookies, she loves... " Derek was saying but was interrupted by Nina

" Love them. I freaking love cookies. Thanks so much for the cookies Mrs Wesley"

"It's Joanna Nina, Joanna."

"Oh, I'm sorry, Joanna."

We all munch the cookies and Derek invites us to the dinning table for a proper dinner.

"Dad! You made dinner? When?"

"While you were up taking your glorious time to get ready for the evening"

Dinner was incredible. I must admit Derek is a great cook. He and mom should compete sometime.

"Thanks for dinner Derek" mom said

"Thanks for meeting us Joanna. We had extras seats filled at the dinning tonight."

Mom and Derek were still talking but I didn't listen anymore. I was trying to my eyes to communicate with Nina. I wasn't making progress as she understood nothing. I then looked up and side. She understood that at least.

The Gilberts saw us to the door and we said our goodbyes.

As mom and I got home, I went up to my rooms window while mom went to her room, beaming with smiles I'm sure. I waited there a while before Nina came over to her window.

"Hey, finally!" I shouted in a whisper.

"I'm sorry, dad didn't go into his room quickly. How do you propose we get to the roof top?"

"There's a ladder around the back of our house. Can you sneak out?"

"Well I've never tried to but I can try. I've seen movies."

I laughed, "I bet you've. Be careful"

All we said were in whispers. We were being careful to not wake our parents.

I sneaked out of our apartment to meet Nina then we went around the back to climb the ladder.

I let Nina get up first then I went up.

While we were up, we lay on the roof and got comfy looking at the stars. Nina was looking really beautiful under the moonlight.
I almost missed the sight of a shooting star she pointed at as I was staring at her when she did see it.

I wasn't caught in the act, Thank God.

"You want me to get that for you?" I asked jokingly

"If you'd be my Flash, I'd love that"

"Well, I'm Zoom, you want Flash so I'm just gonna lie here"

"Silly!" she said and we both laughed as silent as we could.

As soon as the silent laughter does die down, we keep looking at the stars. It was indeed a beautiful sight.

Lucky me, a beautiful sight, a beautiful girl at my side, God is totally in control.

I wanted to steal a glance at Nina and as I turned my head, our eyes clocked and held for a moment or two then shifted towards the sky.

It was a really awkward situation for the two of us. I couldn't find words to say for a while.

"I..."

"We need to go" Nina said.

"Oh, aah, yes, that's what I was gonna say, we should go to sleep"

We got down from the roof using the ladder and bade goodnight in whispers.

I snuck back in like I did out without my mom sensing anything.

I tossed for hours then finally fell into the hands of sleep.
