Ruby wasn't going to lie to herself. That dream really messed her up. She couldn't trust herself anymore. Not completely.
"Ruby?" Sapphire broke through her thoughts.
"Hm?" Ruby looked at her confused.
"You've been glaring at that toaster for fifteen minutes now," Sapphire chuckled a little, "What's up?"
Ruby blushed bright red. She was really that obvious, huh? She sighed. She couldn't keep secrets from the love of her life.
"I'm scared," Ruby looked down ashamed, "I'm really, really scared."
Sapphire placed her non-gem hand on Ruby's, "That's ok. I'd be worried if you weren't."
Ruby looked up at her gratefully, "Its just...what if I just don't forget everything?"
"What do you mean?" Sapphire asked.
Ruby shook her head, "I don't know. Last night..." Ruby stared at Sapphire. What would she think of her if she knew?
"Last night?" Sapphire inquired, "Did you have another dream?"
Ruby nodded her head quietly.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Sapphire asked. Ruby remained quiet. She couldn't revisit those memories.
Sapphire gave her a concerned look but didn't push. Ruby would come to her in her own time. Until then Sapphire had to find a way to cheer her up. She took Ruby's hand and led her outside. Ruby gave her a confused look but Sapphire just smiled. She placed a hand on her waist and Ruby put her's on Sapphire's shoulder.
Sapphire hummed the song she sang when they first met and they danced for what felt like forever.
Ruby looked at her girlfriend lovingly. She wanted to be with her so bad. To fuse again.
"I love you Ruby," Sapphire breathed as they danced around their circle.
"I love you...too..." Ruby trailed off towards the end and looked at the blue gem in front of her strangely.
"What is it?" Sapphire asked.
"I..." Ruby backed away, a look of complete fear clouded her eyes.
"Ruby?" Sapphire looked at her concerned. Was she afraid of her?
"I forgot," Ruby choked out. Tears were forming in her eyes. "I forgot," She kept repeating it under her breath. She was panicking.
"Ruby, what did you forget?" Sapphire got close enough to put a hand on her shoulder.
Ruby's eyes slowly met her's.
"Your name."
"What?" Sapphire's eye widened.
"Your name, I forgot your name," Ruby's voice cracked. How could she forget her name? Why couldn't she find it, why didn't she know it? Her breathing quickened rapidly.
"Hey, it's ok," Sapphire's voice shook uncharacteristically, "Its me Sapphire. I'm right here. Sapphire, my name is Sapphire."
"Sapphire," Ruby repeated, a hand over her mouth. That's right. Sapphire. She said it over and over until it stuck. She couldn't forget, she just couldn't.
"Hey," Sapphire said, hiding her hurt surprisingly well, "Lets go inside."
Ruby nodded, still shaking. Sapphire. Sapphire. Sapphire.
Once they were inside Ruby grabbed Sapphire's hand and said with such confidence and fiery determination, Sapphire found it hard to believe she had been experiencing a full-blown panic attack a few seconds earlier, "I won't forget you. I'll never forget you again."
Sapphire stared at Ruby in shock.
"I promise."
