Chapter 16: That Fateful Spring

It was a beautiful spring morning when Levi and Eren were walking to school. The birds were hatching and the cherry blossoms were blooming creating a magnificent pink terrain. “WHY MUST THE MARRIAGE BE AFTER I GRADUATE?!” Eren loudly complained to Levi. “SHUT IT!” Levi ordered. “Sorry I forgot…” Eren frowned. “Don’t you think you’re too young to get married?” Levi asked. “Yeah… But after you graduate I won’t see you for a long time!” Eren whined. “You have your whole life ahead of you, don’t make me your whole world just yet.” Levi stated. “So does that mean we aren’t having any sex?” Eren bluntly asked. “DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND A SINGLE THING ABOUT PRESERVING YOUR INNOCENCE?! You’re such a slut Eren.” Levi frustrated. “You’re such an old man.” Eren rolled his eyes.

The two entered the school building with several glares peering through their souls. “What’s with them?” Eren stressed. Levi left Eren as if they did not even walk to school together. Eren remembered the hierarchy of their school and continued his usual routine of not interacting with Levi during school hours. This system of scrutiny bothered Eren more than usual throughout the day. The last day of school was upon them, but Eren did not fully grasp that concept until he saw Levi giving his last opening ceremony speech to the upcoming freshmen.

Walking back home to Levi’s, Eren’s memories of his first meeting with Levi to the present were flowing through his mind like a waterfall. Step by step on the streets, Eren wondered how much his life has changed from losing his mother. Losing focus, Eren noticed he was in the middle of the road, almost getting run over by a horse until someone saved him. “Uh, thank you very much sir!” Eren said. “What could have made you not notice all those horses?!” He angered. “I was just thinking about stuff… ERWIN?!” Eren said, confused. “Hey you kids what are you doing messin up the roads!?” A military man complained. “Calm down” An elderly military officer commanded.

“Dot Pixis?” Erwin feared. That name was familiar to Eren but he could not completely recall where he had heard it. “It’s been a while Erwin! Care to have a drink?” Dot Pixis invited, obviously drunk. “I’m sorry but what are you doing here sir?” Erwin asked. “I’m attending Shingeki Academy’s graduation ceremony! Erwin I heard you weren’t the top student anymore but that doesn’t take away the enthusiasm of seeing you in the military police soon!” Dot Pixis expressed.

“Eren are you okay? Do you need me to walk you back to Levi’s?” Erwin said, giving his entire attention to Eren. “I’m fine” Eren replied. “Levi?” Dot Pixis questioned with a hint of anger in his voice. “Oh, I got to go take this young man home!” Erwin panicked, grabbing Eren’s wrist and speeding towards Levi’s apartment complex. “Eren, I advise you not to attend the graduation ceremony tomorrow.” Erwin rushed. “What’s the big deal?” Eren asked. “I don’t know, I just… you shouldn’t be around that man!” Erwin feared. “Why should I trust you Erwin-senpai?” Eren stated. “Because you’re precious to Levi, if he’s hurt…” Erwin frowned and tighten his grip on Eren viciously. “OW! I don’t know why you’re behaving like this but I got to go.” Eren said. “Tell Levi, that Dot Pixis will be there tomorrow.” Erwin requested. “I guess so…” Eren responded.

Later that night when Levi and Eren were in bed, Eren was thinking about delivering Erwin’s message. But he could not help but feel a sort of agony when thinking about Dot Pixis. Levi faced Eren and ran his long fingers through Eren’s hair. “Hey Levi” “Yeah” “Can we be happy if people find out we’re together?” Eren asked. “Of course” Levi responded. “Then why are we still continuing the same routine?” “Because, I don’t want you to get hurt.” Levi answered. “How long do we have to keep this a secret?” Eren asked. “Just until you grow up some more.” “Do you really think that will change anything?” Eren continued pessimistically, rubbing his face in the blanket. “What’s wrong with you today?” Levi asked. “All I want is to hold your hand in public, talk to you, and do normal things with you without anyone saying it’s wrong.” Eren cried. Levi wrapped his arms around Eren, “I do too.” He responded, “Is there anything else you need to tell me?” Levi asked softly. “Not really… Oh, wait” Eren sniffed, “I ran into Erwin on the way home and he told me to tell you…”

 Eren went to school the next day to participate in the graduation ceremony along with the entire school. “Eren are you okay?” Armin asked. Eren’s face was completely pale with fear. “Dot Pixis…” Eren murmured. “I see you’ve met him.” Petra commented. “Who’s he?” Mikasa asked. “The man running the Garrison…” Eren answered. The man who took Erwin away from Levi.
