Chapter 2: That Fateful Night

       “Excuse me” said a deep familiar voice. “Uh, I’m sorr—“ Eren’s words were halted. “What?” “Levi-Senpai?!” Exclaimed Eren. “So what” Levi said apathetically. Levi was entranced and had his focus on the board. “Are you that freshman from earlier this morning?” Levi asked. “Yes!” Eren said without a thought and still locked onto Levi’s face. “What’s your name?” “Eren! Eren Jaeger!” Levi scanned the board. His eyes were wary. “Your rank…” “YES!?” Eren said clueless. “69th out of 100?” Levi remarked. “What is it that you want with me? Do you want me to do your homework?” Levi asked agitated. “Huh? NO! I… I like you Levi-senpai. Levi took his eyes off of the board and walked down the wall halfway. He stopped and said, “I don’t like stupid people.” Answered Levi. Eren was appalled. His hopes were crushed and he did not understand why Levi said those harsh words. After all it takes a lot of effort to be 69th out of 100 students! Levi left and Eren analyzed the bulletin board in an attempt to find Levi’s rank. Levi was 2nd out of 30 students from his senior class! “Impossible! Levi-senpai… IS SO COOL” Eren yelled to an extent that the entire school could hear him. Somehow Eren could not give up on Levi even if there was a huge difference in their skills and class.

       Eren decided to study with Mikasa and Armin consistently to improve his grades. “Eren… you’re doing the entire assignment wrong.” said Armin shyly. “IMPOSSIBURU!” said Eren. “You two have to get me up to Levi-senpai’s level! He doesn’t like stupid people! After all… Mikasa! Your rank is 10th out of 100! Armin! Your rank is 1st out of 100! YOU TWO CAN BRING ME INTO LEVI’S SALVATION!” exclaimed Eren. “But don’t forget it’s not just academics that is significant to Shingeki Academy.” Said Mikasa. “You can’t forget that we are graded physically by the Military Police? You could go up by 20 ranks with good physical exams.” Explained Mikasa. “I heard Levi-senpai’s physical ranking is the highest in the nation! And he’s always around the genius Erwin-senpai, whose academic ranking is the highest in the nation!” said Armin. “Wow those two really are an amazing pair.” Mikasa said. Eren looked down. “Irwin-senpai and Levi-senpai make an amazing pair?” said Eren. Reality has finally sunk into him. “Levi-senpai does not like stupid people… Erwin-senpai must be his ideal type. After all, he’s the smartest person in this nation.” Said Eren depressingly. “Eren! If you are going to like someone don’t give up. I think you have the strongest will in this nation!” Mikasa said flushed. “Uh… thank you. Thank you Mikasa.” Eren said gratefully. It was getting late and Eren and Mikasa left Armin’s home. Mikasa and Eren have been living together as adoptive siblings since Mikasa’s “incident” that left her as an orphan. The night was peaceful. It was not cold but oddly warm with a tolerant breeze. “Eren when will you give up on this guy?” Mikasa asked. “Until a Titan invades wall Maria.” Eren said with no regrets. Mikasa stopped. “What?” Eren asked. Her eyes were all white and she grew pale. “Eren… look.” She said monotonously. Eren looked up and saw an incredible creature.

IT WAS A TITAN! Eren has never seen an actual titan in real life but has always despised them for ruining the lives of humans. The titan was alone and suddenly started stomping on Eren’s home. “Mom! Mom! Mom she’s still inside!” Eren rushed into the house while the titan was still continuing its terror. “EREN!” Mikasa screamed. Suddenly a raven-haired scout appeared out of the night in his green poncho. He was quite skilled and fast. He defeated the titan with ease. It had been done. The titan was gone. “Levi-senpai?” Mikasa said. “Is there anyone in the building?” He asked. “EREN!” Mikasa cried. Levi jumped. He went into the crushed building quickly and looked around for Eren. “Eren! Eren! EREN!” Levi cried. “WHERE ARE YOU!? DON’T DIE YOU IDIOT! EREN!” Levi continued. Levi noticed Eren’s damaged uniform on the ground. Levi saw a limb and lifted up a piece of the building. Levi saw Eren under the rumble. “Idiot…” Eren was covered in blood and bruises. Levi shook Eren’s body. He did not respond. “YOU IDIOT YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DIE PROPERLY!” Levi broke down in tears. “I just met you…” Levi cried. “Me too…” Eren’s voice was weak. “Idiot! You should’ve responded!” yelled Levi. “Senpai please help me up… my mother…” Levi lifted Eren’s delicate body up from the debris. Below Eren was his dead mother. “Is she really…” Eren broke into tears and couldn’t finish his sentence, “I tried to save her and I couldn’t I’m weak…I’M WEAK!” Eren cried. Levi grabbed Eren’s body and wrapped his arms around him. Levi was warm. Levi’s poncho provided warmth in the cold atmosphere. “You’re also stupid.” Said Levi as Eren continued to cry on his shoulder. “Levi-senpai, please stay. Stay, don’t leave me.” Eren cried. Levi held back his tears. He knew he was lucky. He had not thought too long ago that Eren was dead. “I’m sorry” Levi said. “Senpai…” Eren said. “I should’ve arrived earlier!” Levi cried. Mikasa stood helplessly and let the two have their moment. She was in tears. Carla was dead and now Mikasa and Eren were homeless.
